Rainbow Scrap Challenge December Year End Goals

I started participating in Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge at the beginning of 2011. You can read my first post here, and the hilarious thing about that post is... the quilt I was working on then... is still a UFO!
I have enjoyed 8 years of being inspired by Angela to sew up my scraps and have been linking up regularly over the years. A few wonderful projects have been finished (my favourite finish this year was "Tied up in Knots") but dozens more have been started!
When playing with scraps I like to have several projects on the go so that there is a use for every size of scrap. Block construction is my favourite part of quilting, so I tend to make a lot of blocks and then start to lose enthusiasm for projects as they approach the layout phase. I usually try to be more focused on finishing some RSC projects in  November and December.

Mad City Mama
In December last year I finished Mad City Mama quilt top and the year before I finished Scrappy Spools quilt top.
My goal this December is:
1) to quilt Mad City Mama and
2) to assemble 2 Rainbow Challenge quilt tops - Circle of Squares and Carrie Nation. It's a totally ridiculous overly ambitious goal, but I really want to see some progress on these projects.
Hop over to the RSC link up and see what other quilters are trying to finish up this week.

  1. Love all your RSC projects. They do take some time due to only working on one color at a time. I'm right there rowing in the boat with you. LOVE your Mad City Mama quilt! Happy stitching.

  2. I'm with you. I enjoy the construction of blocks far more than finishing them! But at least you have finished some! Hope you manage to reach your ambitious target of finishing three quilts before the new year.....wonder if you will be quilting late into the night New Year's Eve LOL.

  3. Knowing that your first RSC quilt is still a UFO makes me giggle. Maybe it can go on the list for 2019?

  4. I'm amazed that you can keep track of them all; you are one organized lady! When you have the time take some pictures of your set up. Or better yet- come on over.

  6. I'm the same way - love making the blocks, and then slow way down when it comes time to put the top together and finish it. But, little by little, we will! It was fun following your links to see the earlier projects, and I definitely will enjoy seeing your upcoming finishes!

  7. It is good to have goals that make you stretch a bit. Think of it as yoga! Keep reaching for the stars!

  8. I too suffer from this affliction. I have noticed that once I have enough blocks to see what the quilt will really look like, I'm done. Even if the blocks are not all done, I'm done. I saw what it will be when it grows up, so I don't need to do more for this quilt. Sad, isn't it? Maybe when I grow up in wisdom I'll find a cure for this. Good luck with your goals. ;^)

  9. It has been loads of fun to follow your RSC progress. I started following your blog the year you started this challenge. I can't believe your patience in keeping projects going so long. Don't get me wrong, I have UFOs over 20 years old, but they are buried and forgotten. If I am "in progress" with something, I just want to get it done.

  11. I absolutely love your Mad City Mama blocks! I’m going to have to look that one up because I have that book. What’s another year between RSC friends, right? We’ll be here cheering you on whenever you finish.

  12. Your RSC projects are also such fun to watch develop. I afraid to count how many RSC projects are still UFOs. Oh well, they use up scraps, at least they are in blocks and not still in the drawers.

  13. You're just like me, I love to start projects, and have plenty of UFOs. But I love to be in a process, and it works well for me. Your scrappy quilts are just beautiful.
