When I saw the posting for this blog hop I knew I wanted to make a quilted peace sign. Unfortunately I wasn't quite sure how I would go about actually sewing it. Luckily I found a peace quilt to inspire me made by Rene over at Rene Creates. Of course I wanted to miniaturize my peace quilt, so I started
by making lots of 2" pinwheel blocks from my brightest 1960s'ish happy batik scraps, and added in some squares of my favorite batiks. I really enjoy sewing with batiks, and I even like how they smell when you press them! YUM!
It was all good until I started figuring out the math for the background strips. Oh my. That is when the fun ended!
But eventually, through trial and error (mostly error!) I got the top together, and jumped right into the machine quilting.
The fun was back!
Here is how "My Peace" quilt turned out... pretty groovy!
I plan to take a better photo of the quilt outside in a peaceful place when there is a nice weather fall day. Thanks again to Madame Samm and to Mary for organizing this fun blog hop for us. I encourage you to visit my blog friends to see what they created with Batiks today.
Here are the links...enjoy!

ReplyDeleteAs a teeny-bopper from the Hippie age of the 70's I LUV IT! I remember making peace signs on my PeeChees and waving the "peace sign" like Richard Nixon. Cute Quilt, I would make it in something other than BATIKS though. I don't care for the smell!

ReplyDeleteLove it, Love it, Love it, Kathy!!! So original and creative! Reminds me of my teen years so much :*) I had a peace sign run on my floor - I sure wish I knew what happened to that. It's so true what they say, that all things come back around eventually. My 9-year-old granddaughter just loves peace signs and has now decorated her room in them, in bright bold colors. Yeah, she's a little like her grandma :*D

ReplyDeleteThat is a marvelous, fabulous, beautiful quilt! So very creative; I never would have imagined making that peace sign using little pinwheel blocks. It is one of the most unique things I've seen in a very long time. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so cool, Kathy! I can see where the math part would have been challenging. I may be projecting but that was the subject that always gave me the most trouble in school. These days I use EQ but you still need math to plug in the numbers sometimes, LOL.
ReplyDeleteWow Kathy, this is so beautiful and a perfect 60's project!!
ReplyDeleteYour peace quilt has turned out so well!
ReplyDeleteI love your peace quilt. The little pin wheels are adorable. I'm glad it was you doing the maths and not me. The quilt would never have got finished in that case.
ReplyDeleteI love your peace quilt! Very clever to add the pinwheels!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Love your colors and the background just sets them all off so well. Another beautifully done project!
