Crumb Along

It's week #3 at Jo's Crumb Along and this week we're making stars and hearts.
Here are my first two stars using the flying geese blocks from last week...

Then I tried a heart within a star, but it turned out a little odd (I think it's because the top inside corner of the left side of the heart is too dark to feature the heart shape... should I unstitch and put a lighter corner on the heart??).

Then I moved on to making more heart blocks. I like the block on the right the best...the heart on the left is a little too wonky for me!

I just love working with these little crumbs but seem to reach a tolerance plateau where I HAVE to quit, pack up the mess, and get my sewing space organized again!

  1. Oh how cute! I really like the hearts, and I get the same way with a mess.....can only do it for so long.

  2. They are fabulous!! That's exactly what I want to do with my hearts, too. And I like the one on the left, wonky-ness and all

  3. To unpick or not to unpick--I say it depends on whether or not it will always annoy you.
These are very fun crumby hearts. Your color choices are beautiful!

  4. I think frog stitching on a crumb block is forbidden. I'm almost sure it is in the rules somewhere. I love the stars, and the hearts just make me smile. What a happy way to spend a Tuesday evening.

  5. Oooh! I love your blocks. I made myself finish crumb piecing before I went looking at everyone else's blocks. I really enjoyed making these ones, but like you I had to clean up after my session.

  6. Leave it the way it is! Even though your inner self wants to fix it..LOL! It will be fun to see how the whole thing turns out!

  7. Great stars and a cute idea to use pieced heart fabrics! I wish I could get my area cleaned up... I go to clean it up and think, well, I'll just sew these two sections together to finish a block and one leads to another and on and on!

  9. Your blocks look great. I tend to agree that crumb blocks are what they are and that there is no need to unsew!

  10. I would say the same about your heart in the star, let it as it is ! I still love how it turns out with your batik fabrics, it brings light, peps and softness.
Crumbs everywhere ? Oooh yes. Even after having cleaned up.

  11. These are fantastic!!! I really love your fabrics you decided to use. The batik fabrics are so lovely. And...I can not sew a one of these without looking like the chickens ran into my sewing room and made a mess!!!

  14. They are good just the way they are. If I get a block I don't like, I cut through it a few times into strips and use it in other blocks.

  19. I like your heart in the star. I would leave it. Or maybe just make another one. You can never have to many hearts and stars.
