Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! It's the middle of the summer here and we have a 3 day (Civic Holiday) weekend, so I have been stitching to my hearts content! 💖
I am excited to share a finished stitchery today! I started this cross stitch on St. Patrick's Day this year.
I used Weeks Dye Works hand dyed threads for the first time and I am disappointed that I didn't love it. I only bought 1 skein of the colour called "Lucky", but I was unlucky because of course I needed a bit more thread from a 2nd skein. The 2nd one that I ordered by mail (from the same store) was quite different from the 1st one, but I used it anyway. My friends say that you can't tell the difference between the 2 skeins, and maybe that is true. It does still bug me slightly, but the lesson was learned - when buying specialty threads, always buy more than you think you might need.
I stitched this with 2 threads of floss over 1 square on 14 count Aida, and added 4 buttons which were given to me by my friend. She let me dig through her white button collection jar and pick the best size for the project.
This pattern is called "Stitcher" and is by Misty Pursel of Luminous Fiber Arts. I would like to have a draw for one of my blog readers to win this pattern (which was originally stitched in red threads).
It's a nice big 2 page chart, so no magnification was needed for me to stitch this design. Let me know if you'd like to be in the draw by leaving the word "Stitcher" in the comment section and I'll announce the winner next Sunday.
I've also been working on the binding of the quilt I showed last Sunday and should finish it up today. I really enjoy hand stitching outdoors, while watching Flosstube videos on my laptop. Here I am hand stitching the quilt label while I watch Jane and Julie on Running With Scissors. They are my favourites and always make me laugh (and sometimes cry).
What are you hand stitching today? Link up your instagram and blog posts below and share your projects with us.
I love have multiple talents with sewing and being a STITCHER of cross stitch is something I have picked back up recently if you followed my lovebird pair :)
ReplyDeleteI love your Sunday get togethers for all us stitchers :) Thanks Kathy
Kathi
It always seems you need a little more thread than 1 skein. Don't include me in the drawing, I am not a counted cross stitch person. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteStitcher!!!
ReplyDeleteYour stitcher cross stitch looks wonderful! I can’t notice the change in thread colour at all.
Aren’t long weekends in the summer the best?! Enjoy your stitching today and tomorrow!
That's a sweet design, and perfect for a Stitcher! We certainly can't tell that the two skeins of floss you used are a bit different from each other, but I'm sorry that happened. Thanks for the giveaway! Enjoy your stitching today, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteStitcher. I can't tell that you used two different skeins on this piece. I like how you finished it with the buttons. I really have to start watching some of the FlossTube videos. I love Life in Full Bloom. I really like to stitch big swaths of color because you see the progress so easily. It is much better than confetti stitching.
ReplyDeleteI have not done cross stitch in ages, but I used to do a bit of the 'boring' stuff each start before working on the fun stuff. Your stitchery is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCertainly can't see any colour variation in the photo! Its a sweet little pattern.
ReplyDeleteStitcher! Thanks for this opportunity. I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteLovely post Kathy. I think a little variegation in the threads adds interest but you are so right about ordering more than you think will be needed. I've been there and done that! I also do not enjoy full coverage areas in cross stitch...keeping my stitches neat is always a challenge for me. Hand stitching is the best, isn't it!
ReplyDeleteI’m especially fond of your green version of STITCHER! What fun to have that hanging in my sewing/creating space! I feel your pain about the solid filled in color. But you are correct it’s a good one for waiting for appointments or other times when full attention is not possible!
ReplyDeleteStitcher!! Sure would love a copy of pattern. Yours looks great and only you will notice the difference. I have never worked with variegated thread. You are giving me the itch to take out a long ago pattern of cross stitch. It moved here with me and hasn't been touched in 15 years!! It might be time.
ReplyDeleteSTITCHER
ReplyDeleteI really like your stitchery project. It looks great in green! I have been reading your blog for quite awhile and enjoy it. Your granddog is a cutie! Thanks for the giveaway and the chance.
I've just picked up cross-stitching again after putting it aside for over 20 years, so it would be fun to do that pattern. I would love to win it, but if I don't, I will buy it. Love your blog, and now that I am almost retired, hope to do a lot more slow stitching!
ReplyDeleteI was a quilter and started cross stitching in 2020. I am a stich in hand stitcher and would love to win the pattern
ReplyDeleteI love your stitching and can see why you started Stitcher in green. You'll have it ready to hang long before next St. Patrick's Day. Your Life in Full Bloom looks wonderful. I can't wait to see all of it.
ReplyDeleteLove the STITCHER pattern! I can picture it being used sewn into a custom cover for a 3-ring binder with my patterns. Nice to get an extra slow stitching day on rainy holiday Mondays!

I'm a stitcher and quilter too! Would love to win this chart.
ReplyDeleteYour XS project in green turned out nice. I love the addition of the buttons. I cross stitch with a zoome group most Sunday afternoons. I should join your Slow Sunday linky again one of these days.
ReplyDeleteStitcher. Love the bird on this one
ReplyDeleteKathy, I just happened on to this and then lincked to Jane and Julie's site. They are hilarious. !
ReplyDeleteI've cross stitch for decades and have done many Mar Bec angels.
Now it's mostly quilting, a little embroidery and card m aking. seems I can't type though. *snort*
