For some unknown reason I had a desire to work on my version of the 2022 BOM from A Quilting Life. I worked on it at the beginning of February and had a lot of design decisions to make. That is the point at which a quilt can easily start inching into the UFO closet.
But not this time!
Here are the 12 blocks sewn together with the sashing and the square in a square cornerstones.
I like how it turned out so far and am wondering if I should quilt and bind it with black. Or if it needs a black border first to give it more of an outside frame? What are your thoughts?

I would add a frame of a border.. looks good there. Glad you save it from the UFO Closet.
ReplyDeletewhat about a piano key border with alternating golds and black hjrogers@sympatico.ca
ReplyDeleteRather than add another border you could bind it in black.
ReplyDeleteHow about a narrow white border to give it a bit of space and then a black binding. Let the design shine; this is a very attractive quilt top.
ReplyDeleteI just love the cornerstones. It really gives a zip to the quilt. I'd go with a narrow black border and black binding. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like the black binding idea, personally.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely stunning. I love the square in a square cornerstones. I also like Sherrill's idea of a small white border then binding in black.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I like the frames around each block, they really draw the eye in.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't quilt it in black, that would muddy the contrast you have between light and black. Very attractive quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beauty, Kathy. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on the border and binding.
ReplyDeleteI like this quilt! I'd bind it in black. I don't think it needs anything else.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt, such a manageable size. I think the golds used in the blocks need to brought out to the edge so perhaps a narrow-ish border, say 1.5" finished, cut to random lengths and then a black binding.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous finish! I love how you sashed each block. Brilliant! And yay for not putting this back in the UFO pile!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Kathy! Love, love, love your square-in-a-square cornerstones. Fabulous! I love the idea of a black border. Followed by black binding or a gold one? Hmmm. Not sure. I'm sure you will find something fabulous. ;^)
ReplyDeleteLove the layout of this quilt. I think if you want to make it larger then yes another border. But I think that just binding in black would be good. I also think quilting in black might over whelm the quilt...maybe a colour to match the background(grey+)
ReplyDeleteI would do a black binding and quilt in a gold. For me black quilting would be too heavy
