We are in full summer mode here, with long lovely evenings and lots of time for stitching in full light. It is one of my favourite times of the year.
And I am doing my favourite hand stitching activity today... finishing a binding.
hand stitching a binding |
This was last night's stitching and you can see the setting sun still peeking through and giving me lots of light to stitch by. I do love the 80 weight Aurifil thread. It is thin and glides through the binding so easily I hardly need a thimble to push the needle.
In my area some COVID restrictions are being lifted. Some businesses are opening and soon we might be able to get a haircut... so luxurious! It will be interesting to see the haircut that happens around a mask! We are waiting to see if we get a second wave of COVID but hopefully that will not happen now that we all know what we can do to stay safer.
We may also be able to go camping this summer which will be so wonderful. All these activities we have taken for granted, that became forbidden and are now returning to our lives. I am so thankful!
Gratitude for everyone working hard to help us survive COVID19 |
What are you hand stitching today? Link up your blog post below and share your progress with us. If slow stitching goes well today, I hope to be posting a finished quilt this week!
I too enjoy the process of stitching on binding. Hair salons have reopened in my area this week, but I am waiting a little bit before I get a haircut. I am still wary.
ReplyDeleteI think the uk is about the same as you. Our hair salons are due to open July 4th and I've booked an appointment middle of July as I'm like Cathie I want to see how they cope! Enjoy your lovely weather and stitching your binding.
ReplyDeleteI waited a few weeks before getting a cut. Where I go had a small mask that just goes around the ears and it seems to work fine for getting a cut. The little hairs do fall into the mask and tickle your nose though. I fear my state is starting the second wave as our case numbers are rising fast. Hopefully the hospitals can keep up. Grocery shopping yesterday had about 3/4 of the people wearing masks.
ReplyDeleteI recently went for my first haircut since February. My hair stylist just had me take the earpieces off my ears, but hang on to the mask so it stayed over my nose and mouth when she needed to work by my ears. That worked really well, and the haircut was so appreciated! Enjoy your binding stitching today, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't made a hair appointment when they first started to open now our cases are on the rise again and I don't know if I should! I have been trimming it myself and it doesn't look bad.
ReplyDeleteDoing the hand work on binding is my favorite hand work too. My hair is approaching three inches too long, but I am not ready to brave a salon yet, even though they are open again here. I'm putting it up in clips everyday.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to "Covid hair"....all I can say is, I'm so glad I let my natural "silver" grown in this past year!!!
ReplyDeleteFunny hair trends! No worries here. I haven't had a hair cut in over 20 years! Enjoy your stitching. You are almost at the finish line!
ReplyDeleteOur hair salons are open, in fact I have an appt next week, so we will see how that goes. My girl wears a mask, she sanitizes her booth/room between customers. She rents one of those rooms, so it is just her alone. She even opens the door for you. I feel pretty confident. I have been going to the same girl since 1980!
ReplyDeleteThat hairstyle picture is hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI've recently starting hand binding my quilts. I've found I really like it...have a great day!
I did get a haircut this week. Makes you really enjoy the simple things in life. I hope your numbers don't rise again, our's are! UGH! A lot of people not wearing masks. It is a bit of an inconvience, but with our hot summers everyplace has air conditioning so it could be worse. I will continue with hand washing and staying at home as much as possible and wearing a mask when I have to go out!
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those strange people who hate having their hair cut. I hate the hairdresser touching my hair and the sound the scissors make as they cut through the hair. So for me lack of haircut due to covid is a luxury.
