Mystery Reveal - Scrap Dance Minuet

Carole revealed the layout for her most recent mystery quilt called Scrap Dance MinuetWe have been working on this quilt for a few months now, and if you are still working on your version and don't want the surprise to be ruined... don't keep reading!

Block #1
Those of you who were guessing how all these pieces were going to fit together in one block were surprised to discover that the units we have been making go together in two different blocks.

Here is block #1 made with the flying geese units, geese pointing to the centre.

Block #2

Here is the alternate block.

Wow those are old florals that have been in the stash a long time! So happy to get them out of storage and into a quilt.

Here is the layout with both blocks. Wow those yellow blocks really jump out don't they? I'll have to be careful to space those blocks out. Border ideas are percolating to use up the rest of these florals.

I love how a white star block appears that I didn't see before. But I don't love that one block has a mistake in it!
Why does this always happen to me when I try to be so careful when I am sewing?!?! UGH!
Where's the seam ripper?

  1. I love this! It's very pretty. Unsewing is annoying but the sooner it's done, the sooner the flimsy is ready for quilting! Happy Stitching!

  2. I've been watching this mystery as I debated my florals. This looks great! I'm game to start now.

  3. This is soft and sweet! I decided not to peer closely enough at the photo to find the mistake. It certainly doesn't leap out :)

  4. I'm saving my blocks to put together this weekend at quilt retreat, but it's nice to see your blocks laid out. I found the errant block which I'm sure you have fixed by now.

  5. I adore how these two blocks have come together and your soft florals are so pretty. Not a chance that I could find the error...all wonderful through my eyes. LOL

  6. Your floral fabrics are so pretty in this, Kathy! I really like the star that emerged when putting these blocks together, too.

  7. I didn't see the stars til you brought it to my attention. I love the softness of this quilt ... I didn't see the mistake at first but now I do .. . I would do the same thing and grab my ripper. It's a lovely quilt from two blocks ... Beautiful. I see it as a 2 color quilt as well. So pretty ...

  8. Great way to use up your scraps! I need to do this one as a small quilt and practice scrap quilts! Nice work Kathy! Can I send you my ripper? LOL

  9. It's such a soft peaceful little design. I made a large 18" block yesterday and just noticed one of the rows of HSTs are pointing the wrong way. I'll think of you as I unpick.

  10. Good thing you found the mis-sewing before you assembled the blocks and especially before you quilted them! It is a nice combination.

  12. Very pretty blocks, lovely florals. It took me a minute to find the mistake and I would have maybe just left it! It's interesting how looking at a photo can reveal all sort of things from color placement, to value, balance, etc.

  13. This will be such a soft, pretty quilt.
You could just call it a creative design element--but I'd probably have to fix it at this stage. :)
