Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching link party! It's the last Sunday before Christmas and everywhere I go I am being asked the same question...  ARE YOU READY?
Well, I haven't finished my hand made gifts, or my store bought gift shopping, or finished the baking I like to do, and have very few groceries in the fridge. But I know that I always get everything done that NEEDS to get done.

Christmas means a lot of organizing, shopping, cooking, and mountains of dishes. I don't enjoy any of those tasks but I practice mindfulness and remind myself of this Mother Teresa quote.  I do all this work so my family can have lots of fun together, and enjoy great holiday foods.

And speaking of having fun together, on Friday night I had some friends over to sew and I wanted to share a few more photos (you can see some photos here). This gorgeous needle punch pattern that Sandy made is from the Punch Needle and Primitive Stitcher Magazine. She finished it on Friday and we all admired this lovely piece of hand work. It was perfection!

And when she was done that, she worked on hand stitching a binding. I find binding a very relaxing activity and really want to do some over the holidays, but haven't yet finished the machine quilting on En Provence. Hopefully soon.

My sister gave me a Christmas gift by doing some unstitching for me. She removed the big mistake I made when piecing my "Secret Santa" mystery quilt (read about it here). It was a 16 piece section that had to be ripped out, rotated 180 degrees and restitched.  I greatly appreciated the hand work that she carefully did to help me get this quilt repaired.

What are you hand stitching today? Are you finishing Christmas gifts like I am? I look forward to showing you some of the things I've been making once Christmas is over.

One lucky blogger is going to win these Chickadee Hollow Christmas embroidery designs. The random draw will happen early on Christmas morning, so the link up will be open until then. We hope you will link up your blog post below and share your hand stitched projects with us.

  1. We believe at our house too! I still have one more gift to finish and a few groceries to pick up...somehow, everything that needs to get done, will get done. I’m looking forward to seeing the gifts you have been making. Homemade gifts are an important part of Christmas for me too. Your sister is definitely on the nice list for doing that unstitching for you. Merry Christmas, Kathy,

  3. My day yesterday was pretty frantic, but all the hard stuff is done and now I can enjoy just hanging out. There should be some time for stitching this morning before the family stuff gets going. Hope you get all your preparations done today. Have a very Merry Christmas with your family.

  4. I'm not sure how much stitching I will get done today, I'm tied to the kitchen baking and preparing tomorrow's dinner for when the family arrive! I agree your sister will definitely be on the nice (not naughty) list! Have a wonderful Christmas.

  5. I only made one Christmas gift. I'll show it off next week for Slow Sunday Stitching. My sister-in-law follows my blog from time to time and I don't want to spoil the surprise. Have a great holiday, Kathy.

  6. how nice of your sister to help take out the mistakes! I enjoy parts of the holiday activity - but overall because mostly it is just I and hubby it is not as enjoyable as it used to be but has the extra baking in the time - it was a happier time when the kids were young

  7. Love the Punch Needle piece and how nice to have someone help unstitch for you, I just cut out a bunch of stitching I wasn't happy with not a pleasant task. This year I have closed my shops early so I can have time to breathe and some slow stitching. I will be joining my sister and her family for Christmas and this year I decide to order the dessert from a bakery rather than do it myself. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas

  8. Love Mother Theresa's words. It's all in how you look at things. Your sister is precious. Because I grew up in a foster home, I don't have that bond with my sisters, so hug yours and cherish what you have. It's precious. Wishing you a happy and joyful Holiday! ;^)

  9. Lovely post, Kathy. I think that is the best gift ever to have someone patiently correct a stitching mistake. Busy days and I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

  11. I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Just need to make breakfast rolls for baking on Christmas morn.

Now that's a sister who must love you dearly. I'd never volunteer for that task. And I saw a problem with one of my blocks after I posted a photo. Thankfully it's up in the corner. And either no one noticed when they viewed it on my blog or they just didn't mention it. I'll rip in the new year.

    Happy Holidays!
