Hello stitcher! Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party where we hope you will get lots of inspiration and encouragement to help you on your stitching journey!
Progress is continuing on my Life Is Beautiful project. I am working my way through the stack of prepared blocks that I pin basted earlier in the summer. Here is the most recently finished block. I start in the centre and quilt the horizontal and vertical seams out to the edge of the block. Then I quilt around the appliqued circle, and lastly quilt around a traced circle. Also I decided to baste around the edge of each block which will make it easier when it's time to join the blocks together in the quilt-as-you-go style.
This block will now join the pile of the other quilted blocks in the freezer. That's quite a stack of finished blocks!
Yes, I do store quilt blocks in the refrigerator (another photo here). It's the perfect quilting storage unit with lots of shelves and air movement to keep the fabric fresh, with no light to damage fabrics over time/years.
What do you use your refrigerator for?!?! LOL
I just got an idea to have another photo challenge, so watch for that next week.
What are you working on today? Link up your blog post below and share your hand stitching projects with us.

Great quilting! Save the quilts in the freezer? I have not heard before, but it might be a good idea. LOL My freezer is full of food, maybe too much. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell that's a new one on me! Never heard of putting quilt blocks in the freezer!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your slow stitching time today. Using the refrigerator for fabric/project storage? That's a new one!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of storing your quilts in progress in a refrigerator is this turned on or off - I assume it is an extra refrigerator that is not in use for food
ReplyDeleteYes... an extra refrigerator... unplugged!
DeleteI also have not heard of storing quilt blocks in the refrigerator! I think our family of 8 would very much rebel at having fabric not only everywhere in the house, but in the refrigerator as well!! Maybe when we need a new one...
ReplyDeleteNow that's a new one to me storing your quilt blocks in the freezer. I may have to try storing my basted quilt in the freezer so that I can quilt during the hot summer months! LOL
ReplyDeleteWe all need to come over and have a UFO day. Interesting place to store your UFO’s but it is looking a little crowded. I love seeing all of your projects as you work on them.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I use the freezer for food. Hand work has been limited to finishing bindings and putting on labels for my fair entries.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking I need to try some QAYG for bigger quilts. But I've seen different methods for block assembly and none of them seemed especially appealing to me. Wondering how you do it...
ReplyDeleteOh...cold storage, huh?
You keep producing such perfect blocks, Kathy. And imagine using the freezer!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the progress on these blocks, the freezer as storage has me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteI used to store my needlepoint yarn in the freezer. Unfortunately we had a fire and no electricity for several weeks. I had forgotten about the freezer and the yard and everyone was afraid to open the freezer (it had meat too) so it went to the dump unopened. No freeze now.
ReplyDeleteFreezer/Frig.... first time for me. Seeing how it's unplugged, you keep the door shut?
ReplyDeleteIf so does it get a musky smell of any kind?
Ah, in the freezer. I never thought about that.
ReplyDeleteYou must not do much cooking. I don't like to cook, but, I have 2 refrigerators, and a deep freezer, and they are all full. No room for fabric in them ;)
ReplyDeleteGirl, I like those snacks in your refrigerator! I might help myself if I were ever to visit. What a unique place to store fabric and quilt blocks.

ReplyDeleteOur group continues to grow. Thank you every week for being such a great hostess. We store welding supplies in our older fridges. Perfect place to keep moisture and light out for sure.
ReplyDeleteFinding places to store quilt blocks is always difficult but an unplugged freezer sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat made me LAUGH! But what a clever use of the space! :)
ReplyDeletethe fridge/freezer died in our 5th wheel camp trailer, so it holds card games in the freezer, and table games with boards in the fridge. as well as large jugs of vinegar, and such. The working freezer is FULL of food. Time to get at eating it up and making room for fresher stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou’re too funny! I never thought to store my projects in the fridge. There certainly is plenty of room....I hate to cook.
