It's a boring looking design wall today. These are the neutral 4 patch blocks for step #1 of the Quiltville mystery. Bonnie recommended that if you want your finished quilt to be a smaller size (smaller than 87" square), it is a good idea to make half the blocks and that is what I'm going to do for this mystery project. So here are almost half of the recommended number of blocks.
I sewed a big pile of blocks without any thread, so those had to go through the machine twice! Don't you just hate when that happens? I can usually tell by the sound of some machines that the bobbin has run out, but I can't notice a different sound on the Singer 301s.
I have enjoyed cutting and sewing these neutrals from the Good Neighbours fabric line, but am looking forward to cutting into all the other fabrics and get some contrast going in the next step.
Linking up to Patchwork Times and Quiltville's step 1 link up.
I have also done some "practice sewing" with no bobbin thread.... My new machine stops dead when the bobbin runs out. I have not started my mystery four patches yet. Hoping to have time to get started on that.
ReplyDeleteYour fabric reminds me of sherbet! It's yummy! Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteNice start! I usually only "sew twice" at a group setting, like a retreat, when I can't hear properly.
ReplyDeleteoh the bobbin thread thing, lol! Yes I've done that too
ReplyDeletethe empty bobbin thing has happened to me too! I will wait until the mystery is finished and see if I like it - I don't like the color scheme so wonder on it - if I like it I can make in a different color scheme.
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty. Cotton candy.
ReplyDeleteI am going half this year. There are only so many huge Mystery Quilts you need in your life!
ReplyDeleteI was "practicing" also for about 20 of them! LOL Love the prints and can't wait to see them in the quilt.
ReplyDeleteIronically...I too had to run a few four patches through my 301 a second time. I was just happily sewing away and patches were falling to the floor behind the machine. I am doing the full size.
ReplyDeleteI also air sewed a bit, lol! Looking good!
ReplyDeleteI'm also doing only half the number of blocks since I don't really need an 87" square quilt. I have over half the four patches done, but I'm using lots of different Bonnie neutrals so the prep strip cutting is taking some time.
ReplyDeleteLove your neutral blocks. I hate it when I don't notice that I ran out of thread.
ReplyDeleteMy Pfaff's "low bobbin" sensor quit working a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteI plan to sit on the sidelines and admire everyone's progress on En Provence this year.
Great progress! It is so frustrating to sew with no bobbin!!
ReplyDeleteLook at you go! I am always pretty frustrated when I find I have "stitched" a bunch of units with no thread. At that point I often have to step away from the machine for a bit. : )
ReplyDeleteAir Stitching isn't a good thing. I did it too. Next time I'll change to make sure I start with a FULL Bobbin! Fun Mondays and Fridays to share with my Blogging friends! I'm excited to watch this Mystery emerge with you and the rest of Quilville!
ReplyDeleteI love Mary's phrase..."air stitching"... we've all done it! Great neutral blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour four-patches look great!
ReplyDeleteAir sewing seems to be an epidemic! Me, too!
ReplyDeleteI never go a whole day of sewing without air sewing:)
ReplyDeleteWe call that 'practice stitching'. Most of the time I can catch it pretty quick, but, not always. It's worse if you had to pin something, and forget to check if there is thread in the bobbin, as you pull all those pins out.
ReplyDeleteThose are some fun neutrals! I HATE when I run out of bobbin!
ReplyDeleteThere's been an epidemic of empty bobbins this week!
ReplyDeleteYour neutrals look cute, anyway.
Very pretty neutrals, I really like the traces of color in each fabric you are using.
ReplyDeleteReally neat four patches from you 301k workhorse
ReplyDeleteNice neutrals :)
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics in your 4 patches are so sweet! I haven't even started mine yet and I am going full size....behind right from the start!
ReplyDeleteWow! You're right on top of things with the mystery quilt. Good Job!
