Design Wall Swoon #5

On the design wall today is Swoon block #5 fresh from being quilted. It even has that freshly quilted smell! HA! That's actually the smell of Best Press Spray (I spray the backing and iron well before basting as it seems to make the quilting movement a bit more slick). The full size blocks are enormous at 24", but of course I wanted to try a mini version.

I did sew one 8" block and enjoyed it, but it was a real challenge. Keep in mind that there are an unbelievable 90 pieces in this one block!
Then I saw over at February's finishing party link up at One Monthly Goal that there were three finished mini Swoon quilts! You have to see these amazing quilts made by Cindy, Tish, and Sandra. These 4 block quilts are less than 20" finished! I noticed that they have modified the piecing into units that would be easier to deal with than how I sewed it. Now I want to try another one using their block ideas!
The creativity compulsion never ends!

  2. I buy the unscented Best Press after a bad experience at a quilt retreat.
Make the blocks smaller? Go for it!! *LOL* And modify anything you have to in order for it to be doable, is what I say. : )
    Great job!

  3. Yellow and black together always make me think of Monarch butterflies and Meadowlarks and bumble bees. Beautiful blocks.

  4. I use UNscented also. DH would be sneezing overtime if I had a scented spray going on in my quilt Zone. Love your Swoon's. Not sure I'd want them smaller.

  6. I made a mini swoon block as the label of my Patchwork Swoon quilt. I dont think I have ever made anything so fiddly. It looked great though. Love your Swoon.

  8. Love your color combo. Mini is a place I don't visit often but some of the incredible work (Janet!) is impossible not to admire!

  9. Well hello! Cindy sent me the link to your blog. Thank you for the shout-out and the compliments! We had a blast, even though I think the air was blue for blasts of a different nature for each of us a few times over the piecing. Our blocks are "only" 65 pieces per 8" finished block. Your colours are terrific.
