Back to Swoon

Have you made a Swoon quilt by Camille Roskelly?!? It has been a very popular pattern for years and I started my Swoon project back in 2012 using black and white, grey, and gold fabrics. I really enjoyed sewing the blocks and then they sat for a while until they were ready to become a quilt.  I have no idea why this quilt bubbled to the top of the UFO list this week, but it is finally coming together in my mind, so I decided to start the machine quilting. The blocks will be individually quilted and then I will join them using the "Quilt-As-You-Go" technique (good photos of the technique here).

I treated myself to a brand new pair of Machingers, which I really like to use when machine quilting.
The batting was joined together from some scrap pieces using fusible batting tape.

The design will be free motion curved lines. It is a great brain stimulating activity to plan out how to quilt as much of the block as possible without stopping/starting.

  1. Great color combination. I like your quilting plan too. I've done QAYG but didn't join w/sashing. Cristina at A Few Scraps also has a great looking tute for joining w/sashing I've not made a Swoon quilt.

  4. Oh thanks for that linky--I see how I could have made Steven's blocks easier with sashing to sew together--I am not giving up on QAYG as everything except the final sewing together and binding was fine....I think the Swoon pattern is lovely, haven't tried it...yet hugs, Julierose

  5. I have always wanted to make a king sized Swoon for my bed. So many other projects on the list for now.

  6. I made one Swoon Block. It was fun to make a big block. I'll use it as a Medallion in something or maybe a pillow someday. I don't see a 2016 UFO list on the sidebar. I'm going to try some of those gloves with my New Artista I just brought home.

  7. I've never made a Swoon block. She does have a pattern for a smaller version, doesn't she?
I love Machingers, too. Can't quilt without them.
Many a time I think I have a non-stop path all figured out, only to run into a roadblock. I wish you better luck!

  8. Can't wait to see it all finished. I have not tried quilting blocks as you go, but my mom used to do this with her quilts. She tried to show me how to do it, but at the time I simply could not get mine to come out right. I will have to give it a go again.

  9. One thing I've never tried is quilt as you go - but then I'm not much into sitting in front of a machine for hours on end quilting! It does look like a more manageable process on a domestic machine though. Your blocks are lovely - I hope you have fun with the fmq!

  10. I'm Swooning over your Swoon! This has long been on the "must make one day" list. Don't see me getting to it any time soon, thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!
