But the bottom middle block was frustrating due to complex cutting instructions which resulted in not cutting the pieces in an efficient manner (largest ones first) which then meant that I had to piece tiny bits of fabric together in order to make up the required size pieces.
And the bottom right block was supposed to be made with templates (bleck!) so I cleverly designed a paper piecing block instead. However, not being as clever as I had thought, I forgot to figure in the seam allowance measurements so the pieces don't join up properly anywhere. All those nice corner points will also be gone when I piece the block in the quilt. Ugh.
Oh well, I'm telling myself (as I usually do) that I tried my best, so it's "good enough". Move on.

I feel your pain in loosing the points
ReplyDeleteThey're pretty blocks. I love the churn dashes the best. When it's all together, a few missing points won't be noticed at all! XO
ReplyDeleteSo, you learned something new =) Good tip to remember on making PP patterns. I love how the blocks are coming together. The flying geese are great.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting these six blocks finished even though some of them were frustrating. My definition of 'good enough' is the same as yours....it doesn't have to be perfect it just has to be my best effort!
ReplyDeleteI have been following your blog for some time now and I am so inspired and impressed by the beautiful quilts and tablerunners. BUT this post really caught my eye! The blocks are so beautiful! Your last thoughts and your "missing points" made a point ;) to me! You reassured me as I continue in my quilting journey. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNone of us is perfect...so what if points aren't sharp...we carry on and learn from this. Love the blue blocks...are you going to embroider on each of them? Love the embroidery and piecing together!
ReplyDeleteThey really are a diverse group, aren't they? But your colours are smart, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat an appealing array of blues! I especially like the flying geese block. Hmm, I copied someone's instructions for that block . . .maybe it's time to try it for myself!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, you've got plenty of interest to make up for blunt points in the corners!
ReplyDeleteI have a Marti Michell Template to make the points like that lower right block if it is a 6" finished size. Makes my life much easier. Love the blues!
ReplyDeleteUse the pointless star for your quilt label, applique it on to the backing with a blanket stitch and you will still have your points : ) and make another churn dash.... my favorite block of all time. Love the blue and whites. Janita
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are looking good. I think I learn something from every quilt I make. You can always go back and remake any block you like if it really bugs you, using your own fabric. I cannot tell you how many times I have done that! Sometimes just because I don't like the print I was given, LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI love your creativity and your diligence. Your quilt will be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe blocks still look great even with the difficulties. I try as much as possible to use EQ blocks if I have to convert to paper piecing. That seems to work better than me going on on my own.
