Design Wall Monday

Here are the blocks that my little sewing group worked on last Friday. We tried a couple of different layouts and decided to have the light background blocks in the centre, and the medium/dark background to the outsides. It was tricky getting a good balance, and then we got to the point where every block change created a new problem in the layout and we had to quit fussing.
The pattern is by Sarah Maxwell and Dolores Smith from the McCall's Quick Quilts magazine Feb/March issue. We are using the portable Cheryl Ann's Design Wall which is 72" x 72", so you can see that it will be a very large quilt when it is done. The centre light background blocks have been sewn in diagonal strips, and that's as far as we got on Friday.
And I sent the rows home with another quilter so that I didn't have to keep obsessing and rearranging the blocks!

  2. Sometimes these 'quick' quilts aren't so quick because they take a lot of time to arrange! It is cute though.

  5. I like the way you chose to put them together with the light radiating from the center. Had to laugh about you sending them home with someone else so you wouldn't be able to keep obsessing about the layout. Probably a wise decision! : )

  6. It looks good. The fussing was worth it. Glad you could pass it on. That's the good thing about a "Group Project". Many hands makes quick work of the Quilt.

  7. The center of the layout has a glow by using the lighter backgrounds in that area.
