Slow Sunday Stitching

Today I will be hand quilting a few more stitches in my sampler quilt. I am enjoying the "big stitching" 1/4" from each seam. I am constantly reminding myself to resist the temptation to make the stitches smaller.
Please forgive the terrible photos taken late last night as I was trying to assess where I am with this project. The bowtie block is finished and I have started the next block, which I will work on today.
I am making such good progress that I have started to think that I might be able to finish the quilt this year.
So I made a list of parts to be quilted which I can periodically update for motivation:
Sashings - quilted 6 of 31
Stars - quilted 4 of 20
Blocks - quilted 4 of 12
What are you hand stitching today? Link up your blog post below and let us be your cheering section!

  1. Isn't it funny how we work so hard to make our quilting stitches small and then we try big stitching and then we have to work just as hard making bigger stitches. I love those big stitches I think it really makes for a very cozy looking quilt!

  5. Oh gosh I had to giggle because I machine quilt and have tried my hand at hand quilting only to get the big stitches but wanting the small. Of course I'd be happy if my big stitches looked that nice. Do you quilt in a hoop or frame?

  10. I always work better when I keep track of where I am and how many blocks are done. I have two more hexie diamonds to add to finish row 24, hand quilted block 4 of the third row and so on. I find it encouraging to keep track. I think I'll post about that. Love your big stitches.

  11. Love your stitching! And I love the way you've broken that job down into separate tasks so you can check them off! I do much better that way too, but I often forget to do it :)

  13. I also like to keep track of my progress. I'm curious about the size of "big stitching". From here, your "big " stitches look about like my efforts at "small" stitching! Ah well, looks good either way :)

  17. Your quilting is coming along nicely. Sorry not joining up today as I have just returned from a retreat and am exhausted. Sewing and quilting for 4 days is hard on a girl. Watch later this week for what I was up to.
