I decided to make my September UFO goal a project that is "fall-like". My Sunflower quilt was a Quiltaholic mystery posted many years ago. (There is still a fun mystery pattern posted on this website - click on projects, click on mystery quilt.)
The sunflower project has been hanging around the studio waiting for some inspiration and it just hasn't happened yet. I don't like this quilt and just want it to move to a new home. This project helped me learn that I don't like square quilts... and I also learned that for me, a little brown goes a long way!!
I may add a top and bottom border to make it rectangular for a bed quilt, but that will depend on the stash fabric.

Not fond of square quilts either! Unless they are large enough for my bed...then I use them and switch up which end is at the pillow..no wear on the binding that way. Good luck on your finishing this one!
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad that you don't like the brown because it really is a pretty quilt when you look at the design. I really like the center circular pattern. I am glad you are going to finish it because I am pretty sure the recipient is going to love it.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on square quilts - just not a fan either!
I have made a few square quilts...swoon is square...it fits on a double bed. Time to get this quilt done and gifted!
ReplyDeleteYou have an endless supply of UFO's! We need to trade some.
ReplyDeleteI was told by a Pattern writer that Rectangular quilt patterns sell best. I make a lot of square-ish quilts. I call them Cuddle size.
ReplyDeleteHave fun quilting this one with all the stars and curves.
Maybe it needs to lose the sunflowers altogether. As I enlarge the photo and study it, I think it could benefit from a different border. The center is bold and graphic and the sunflowers get lost. I know you didn't ask my opinion, but there it is--no charge! *LOL*
ReplyDeleteIt seems that square quilts were popular, but I don't care for them either. I like the sunflower - finish off with a brown binding to frame it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt, I love brown and blue....
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - not a big fan of square quilts and brown is almost never my focal color.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this UFO . . .
With you too, not a fan of square quilts unless they are baby quilts.
ReplyDeleteshame to have done all this work and not like the result, I rather like the brown with the turquoise but can see a border not in brown will lift it
ReplyDeleteWorking on something you aren't crazy about is REAL dedication...well done! I have been sorting through some UFO's and I think some of them will never be completed. A few will find a new home qw well...maybe the garbage, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt is great! Love those star blocks!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to get the end and find you don't like a quilt. Someone talked about changing out the border. Maybe if you used a border that picked up the teal, it would make the brown fade into the background a bit more. Just a thought.
