Treadling on Tuesday

Progress is being made on my treadle scrap quilt. I am working with this project one design decision at a time. I posted the scrap strips with the black sashing on my design wall last month - see that post here.
From that post I decided that I wanted to sew two scrappy strips together to increase the scrappiness and decrease the blackness. Reducing the amount of black sashing in the quilt makes it look much happier don't you think?

I clipped the pile of strips into sets of two to sew together, and drew the 1/4" seam line on the paper foundation for accuracy in sewing. I sewed a couple of long strips together during Quiltcam last night and started removing some of the paper on the back.

I really like treadling these long seams as compared to all the short seams I've sewn on these strips. FUN!

  1. Esta es verdaderamente una colcha chatarra, cuantos trocitos de distintos diseƱos y colores unidos por una tira negra los resalta aun mas...
    Buena idea para copiar.
    Un Abrazo!!!

  3. I never thought about using my binding clips to hold pieces together. Great idea. I may use that technique today when I assemble my chevron quilt.

  4. Wow it makes a difference with less black.
Yes longer seams are better than shorter ones. I was knitting during qullt cam today.....

  8. Great way to make the Treadle work easier with long strips. I bet you're humming along with the motion of the treadle. I'm still Looking but I have a handcrank I should dust off sometime.

  10. I really like the look of this with the two scrappy strips sewn together.
Almost bought a treadle at an antique mall recently. Needed a little work, but action seemed smooth and it was only $100. Just don't know where in the world (or house) I would put it!

  11. Congratulations to your drawing winner yesterday! I like less black too. I tried using black for my crumb strings (thinking "Stained Glass") but way too dark for me so now I go with something bright and like it much better. Too fun playing in scraps...G

  12. Lovely quilt, Kathy! i noticed on your machine bed picture, you have a seam edger--is it made from credit cards? I have a little screw in on my vintage singer 301A but it really isn't long enough--I am looking for ideas to make myself one...hugs, Julierose

  14. Oh Yes! I like this much better! I found two rolls of adding machine paper at the second hand shop the other say. I would have completely passed it up, except for watching you make you crumb strips with it. Thanks for a great idea!

  16. I love how your quilt looks, so old fashioned which to me means cuddly. I am hoping to get my treadle into the Singer store this fall and then maybe I can treadle along with you.

  17. Sewing two of the scrappy rows together was an inspired decision. It's amazing how much it pumps up the impact of the scraps.
