Friday Fun Sew Along

Did you start the Marcus Designer Sew Along last week?
This is block #1 which I just finished. It was quick - less than an hour from start to finish, and it was easy since the instructions were excellent. This is one of my favorite quilty things to make - a smallish 8" block with lots of pieces.... 44 to be exact.

For this sew along I decided to use up the scraps from my Votes For Women project (which is still a pile of blocks.... ugh!) I pulled out some scraps according to the colour instructions. I used 2 blacks because there were 2 smaller scraps that worked well together, and then had to piece together bits of the blue to make enough HST's.

Then I cut and organized the pieces which were all squares to begin with.
And presto... a new quilt block!
I made one tiny mistake, which I didn't unsew because I like how it looks!
Can you spot it?
Here's a hint... no green in my block! Oops! I was following the photos instead of the written instructions, and Pam's green looked like my light fabric, so I cut a few extra pieces assuming I had made a cutting error, and I used light triangles instead of green. I didn't realize what I had done until the block was finished and I had green squares left over!
Can't wait to see block #2 which will be posted today over at Red Crinoline Quilts.

  5. Oh Kathy! I wasn't going to do this and then you go and say you are using your extra fabrics from Votes for Women and I think...I've got extra fabric from mine to. So the blocks is now printing and I'm headed in to play. I love the look of your block and may have to make a mistake on mine too. :)

  12. Very nice block. Sometimes the un-intended works better than the original.
