The UFO project I have picked to finish this month has not been seen for a long time on my blog. I call this quilt "Fandango and Friends". It began in 2010 with a scrap bag purchased for me by my friend Jake while she was at Paducah. All the light fabrics were in that bag and are from the Kate Spain Fandango collection. I added the dark scraps from an old scrap bag of mine (probably some of my very first fabric purchases) and cut everything into 2.5" strips, and then made them into half hexagon blocks. According to my blog posts, I used this tutorial for cutting.
I played with some layout possibilities in 2011 and somewhere along the way it became a quilt top! Apparently I also added partial scraps on the sides so that the edges could be trimmed evenly. Hmmm.... I don't really remember sewing any of these steps, so that's a bit concerning! LOL! But I do like what I did, so it's all good!
The next step is to trim down the sides and decide on borders. It measures 48" x 56" before the borders, so it really could use an increase in size.
Hop over to A Lovely Year of Finishes to see more UFO projects for August.
Mmm. I can see a thin plain border then a piano keys border to finish. Good on you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of piecing went into that quilt! Good to see it getting aired and finished.
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a great cuddle quilt for some small person. Doesn't your guild donate or do the quilts have to be a certain size?
ReplyDeleteWondering in Trout Creek!!
Love your hexie quilt with the lights and darks.
ReplyDeleteWonderful...I love the variety of fabrics that you have used. Nice to see that this quilt has made it to the top of the UFO list.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen this one! Love how it was put together..... good luck with getting it finished.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE this quilt! Since I'm a fairly recent follower, this is my first time seeing it ... I love it! I like contrast in my scrappy quilts ... but it's hard to find a fabrics sorted by lights and darks. All the precuts are from lines, so lights and darks aren't evenly distributed. :-(
ReplyDeleteNo patter how long it takes to fininsh a quilt, in the end it all works out and you love the results.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking great!
ReplyDeleteI love this! What a great quilt to finish up for August. You've inspired me to go dig out my own hexi quilt that needs quilted.
ReplyDeleteI have found some (not too old) UFOs and couldn't remember when/how they came about - scarey. I love the lite/dark setting. It is so busy I would stick to a skinny lite border (even a flange would work) and then just a final plain border - it will frame the lovely center and calm the eye.
ReplyDeleteI like this creation--funny that you don't remember all you did to make it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great to pull out a UFO that is so close to a finish? : )
A fun Quilt to finish in BUSY August! I have the Go Die that is for Half Hexies. That would make cutting a quilt like this easy.
ReplyDeleteI love how you try and get ufo's all finished off in a planned out way. It certainly got me thinking about a few older ufo's of mine that had been languishing and making me feel guilty! I have so far finished off one and really moved two others along. I crochet, but dream about quilting :) It has been lovely to really get some of my older projects closer to being finished off. I admire how you tackle yours in an organised fashion. I love blogs for their inspiration! It's nice to feel part of a lovely crafting community online. I have one very good crafty friend but lots of my other friends aren't too interested, so I come online to "talk' about it all :) Love from Down Under.
ReplyDeleteI think pulling out a UFO is liking finding a hidden treasure! This one certainly is! I will look forward to see what you do for a border.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun UFO! I don't remember ever seeing this one on your blog.
