What about hand stitching in outer space, where there is no gravity to hold your supplies in the place where you left them? Check out this video of astronaut Karen Nyberg trying to hand stitch a quilt block.
What a challenge! Well if she can hand piece a block in space, surely we can do it on earth!
The video really made me want to do some hand piecing.
But first I have to finish the binding on this baby quilt. The machine quilting is finished and I will be hand stitching the binding today. I put on some pink nail polish to get in the mood :)
What are you hand stitching today? Link up your post below so we can celebrate your progress with you!
That was fun to view! : )
ReplyDeleteLove the nails to match the quilt! Amazing what she could do in space. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us to slow down and stitch on Sundays. It is my favorite part of the week.
ReplyDeleteLoved the vid you shared.. and the block she made was awesome :) Interesting vid for sure! I am unstitching then restitching... or maybe I will hand piece since she inspires me to try that too and I have a project ready for that... and a case now to hold it too... :) Thanks for the linky!

Didn't know about this video. Will view this evening. Love the yummy color combo in baby quilt. Backing and binding are perfect coordinates. It is fun to quilt with painted nails. Quilters usually don't take the time.
ReplyDeleteNice idea of painting your nails to match the quilt - for motivation. I'm working on a gray quilt right now, so I'll pass. ha!
ReplyDeleteI saw this video quite some time ago and thought it was pretty neat. I will be hand stitching my tumblers in a motorhome - not near the challenge, I always have liked hand stitching.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this fun video Kathy. Very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteNever considered how useful gravity was when trying to quilt. Thanks for sharing the fun video.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day of hand stitching.
I need to buy more nail polish if my nails are gonna match what I am sewing!! funny girl!!
ReplyDeleteQuilt looks great and love the quilting!
I had originally planned to hand-piece my block for the star block challenge, then decided I didn't have the time and paper pieced it ... when I spritzed the water soluble foundation with water to remove it, some of the blue dye from the fabric transferred to the red background. I tried to fix it last night and more dye ran (onto white and gold fabrics). I will be starting another block (without that bad, bad, blue fabric) and I think I might hand-piece it ... after all.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I have enough trouble with my stitching here where we have gravity. I would probably poke my eye out when the needle would get away from me. Have fun stitching down the binding, won't be long and you can do some hand piecing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting another slow stitching day. Love the pink quilt and matching polish.
ReplyDeleteThat was such an interesting video! Who new there would be so many challenges sewing in space! I will be hand quilting on my Garden Path quilt today! Love the matching nail polish!
ReplyDeleteWell, I sometimes space out when I quilt...
ReplyDeletecute nails and cute quilt.
That video was awesome...I love the idea of quilting in space!! wow!
ReplyDeleteFascinating video!! : )
ReplyDeleteI have seen that video before--these astronauts are multi-talented! Great stripy binding for your baby quilt!
