Design Wall Monday

On the design wall today is my finished Celtic Solstice! 


The photo was taken late at night, so it's not great but you get the idea. I am 99.9% confident that those hundreds of 4 patch blocks are oriented the right way (now). That was very challenging and let's just say that the seam ripper got a work out!
I ran out of the cranberry colour which I wanted for the inner border, so I had to put some gold in the corners. 
It took a lot of time to figure out the measurements to get the angles to match up for the gold corners, but I really like the effect, so I've decided it was worth it!
This quilt is for me and I can't wait to get my regular sewing machine back from the repair shop so I can start quilting it. The next step is to piece a backing, and there is just enough of the black fabric to make up the binding so it will be ready.

    Kathy your Celtic Solstice is just beautiful! I love the colours you have chosen. You aren't alone in the seam ripping department - a friend has made this too, and she said she (almost) ripped more seams than she sewed.

    I enjoy seeing original colorways for Bonnie's mystery quilts. Those would be the quilts made by brave, creative folks (the ones like you standing outside the box), smiling and waving at the rest of us (including me) staying inside the safety of the box.
    Good color play with the corner gold fabric. It looks exactly like you planned it, but we'll keep your secret.

    This is a stellar beauty. Not only are you brave in your decision to select your own colors, as Vivian said--and they are gorgeous, BTW--but you break new ground in changing up the design elements to suit your preference. I learned from you on that a couple of mysteries ago. It was a "duh" moment for me.

    I think the gold in the corners is beautiful and what a great idea! My top was done (without borders) when a friend came over and asked, "why is the one 4 patch turned the other way?" ARGH!! Thank goodness for sharp seam rippers.

    I just LOVE your colorway for this quilt! I think Bonnie's Celtic Solstice is her prettiest mystery yet ... and yours is probably the most beautiful C.S. I've seen! I love how you incorporated the gold at the corners ... you'd never realize that it wasn't part of your original plan!
