I really wanted to work on my Swoon quilt over the summer. I collected all the fabric and finished one test block but kept procrastinating working on it. There was even a Swoonalong to help me out. The link up is posted until mid November, so I might make the deadline yet.
The problem was that I don't like to cut a whole quilt at once. It's boring. And I needed to cut a total of 600 pieces! If you like math, I needed 75 pieces per block x 8 blocks. That's a lot of boring figuring and cutting!
I had all the fabric chosen for each block, but just couldn't convince myself to get that cutting done. I guess that's the part of quilting I like the least.

Looking good! Keep sewing! I have the same procrastination problem...I don't like the cutting out part as much as the sewing part!
ReplyDeleteI have had the fabric for 2 swoon quilts one for me and one for the quilt I will donate to be raffled off for the town and I to have been putting off the cutting have it done but the background for mine then to sew

I've had that swoon pattern for several months now, but have never started one. If you're like me, when I cut out a whole quilt at one time I lose pieces! Then I have to cut more, then I find the first ones. I've been buying a lot of plastic boxes to keep each project in!!
ReplyDeleteSew that's where you are - behind the sewing machine! Keep up your good work - the results will be stunning when it all comes together. Definitely worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a quilt that is mostly borders. Now that is boring..you have to measure to make sure everything fits sooo no precutting...Good luck sewing the rest of your blocks together!
ReplyDeleteHad to smile at that one. I work one block at a time. I think I would get so bored with the whole thing if I had to cut it all out at once. I would probably stop part way and just sew.
ReplyDeleteGood going there. I was thinking of doing one - but not right now.
I know how that can be, you just have to get it done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous collection of fabrics! I prefer to have the cutting done and the blocks kitted up ready to sew. It's just getting to it and sometimes that's the hard part.
ReplyDeleteLove the warning!
How clever that your sign blends in so well with the fabric in your block. : )
ReplyDeleteI don't like cutting--so much so that if I don't cut the quilt all out at the start, I may never finish the quilt if I have to keep stopping to cut. So I put in a fun movie and have a reward for myself for when it is all cut, and I cut away. Not that it does me any good--Easy Street has been all cut most of the year and I only have 9 blocks finished. Oh, my. When I think about it I am embarrassed to tell you how many quilts I realize I have all cut that are hiding in my cupboard. Maybe cutting isn't what stalls me at all!! *LOL*
Cutting isn't my favorite either... I think that is why I love working with pre cuts so much! I really love your fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of pieces for a block! I really don't like the marathon cutting sessions either. Must be why I gravitate toward the medallion quilts and only cut one border at a time.:)
ReplyDeleteIt will be worth the wait. This quilt is awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou'll love it when it's done. JUST KEEP SEWING! I've made only ONE Swoon Block. I'm too used to the tiny blocks it seemed huge! I am committed to making my LUS in the next few months so cutting one block at a time or maybe two is about all I can do. I like having a Cutting session then the stitching goes quicker too, like Judy D said.
ReplyDeleteI love your color choices. I can't wait until you get some more blocks done. It is going to be fabulous. Rev that engine and get sewing!
ReplyDeletethat was a lot of cutting! wonder how long that took. Block looks good and love the fabric choice
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you've choosen for your Swoon blocks. I'm not a fan of marathon cutting either. I'll cut the strips, then cut those as I need to or I'll cut one block at a time. I'd much rather sew!
