I said "I can't do anything because it's ugly and I can't seem to fix it".
Mom said..."Well, you love scraps. Why don't you scrap it?!"
I gasped!
Scrap it?!?!
Sheesh Mom...don't be getting all crazy on me!
It might be ugly, but it's not going in the garbage!!
Then my 16 year old neice Erika came to visit and she came in the room, looked at the quilt pieces and enthusiastically said that she loved the quilt!

I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder!
Now this orange peel quilt is not to be confused with this orange peel quilt...two different projects with totally different techniques. So why are they called the same thing? I guess because they share the same pointy oval shape?
Okay.... gotta get to work peeling oranges!
Oh gosh, I LOVE it! How could you not finish? The hard parts are done! I think it is beautiful :).
ReplyDeleteI also think it is a stunning quilt! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou could finish it and give it to Erika! it is not ugly...it is just high maintenance! I had promised myself I would get mine out and work on it this summer...didn't happen... Maybe after my Christmas gift projects are done.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! Please finish it as quickly as you can (you'll feel better for it if you don't like it looking at you from your design wall!) and give it to Erika or anyone else who loves it!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't love it for its own self, just love that you are finishing it and make all your stitches happy one!
Good luck!
I like it! I guess you now have your niece's Christmas present!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of it now and I know it will be gorgeous when finished. It really does deserve some love and attention!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job piecing those blocks and it does look like a "youthful" quilt.
ReplyDeleteI still love that quilt! So glad it is going to get some attention and go to a well deserved home where it will be loved.
ReplyDeleteYour niece is right!! It is lovely; and a lot of work. It will grow on you....
ReplyDeleteThere is something very wrong with you, that quilt is beautiful. I am not one for scrappy, much, but I have loved this quilt ever since you started it. It is BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeleteSo will Chompers ever get finished? Come on girl get at 'er. I think gifting it to your niece would be a wonderful idea and if you finish it with her in mind that might help you!
ReplyDeleteOh by the way I love Chompers too!
Your Northern Blog Stalker
My OPQ took 18 months and it was a bear to finish but it's done and it is my favorite quilt of all time. So just do it, as they say.
ReplyDeleteHard to sink your teeth (or in this case, Chompers) into something you don't love, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting design, and it has fascinated me since I first started following your blog. It is a bit on the psychedelic side, so maybe a teenage girl would be the perfect recipient. I have 11 nieces and 10 nephews, so I haven't dared start down the slippery slope of giving them quilts, but if that is not your situation, maybe shoot for her high school graduation. : )
p.s. I LOVE the little green funny at the top of the post. That explains a lot about a few of my quilts!! : )
ReplyDeleteI'm with your niece! I love it!! A stunning creation. Maybe you need to quit telling yourself that it's ugly. Instead, think of it as Erika's Happy Funky Love Quilt!
ReplyDeleteI liked the quilt as soon as I saw the picture.
ReplyDeleteTouche' You are going to have a great story to share with your niece and this quilt. Get peeling! Just think of what future quilt historians will say abut this one.
ReplyDeleteHow the heck can you think that scappy loveliness is UGLY?? Are you crazy! its gorgeous!! Looks like Erika is getting a new quilt eh?
ReplyDeleteI personally think the quilt top is wonderful - not ugly at all, but eclectic and fun!
ReplyDeleteIt is so NOT ugly! I hope you are encouraged by so many positive comments. It is wonderfully bright and fun!
ReplyDeleteI certainly do not find this ugly, it is so colourful and beautifully done, will wait to see your photo of it when finished
ReplyDeleteUgly? It's beautiful! Wild, wacky and unique! That is totally my color palette - "everything" :D
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it! It's colorful and fun! My kind of quilt.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! So hard to finish something you're not feeling the love for. Good luck getting past the difficulties and maybe it could eventually be gifted to someone who loves it 'as is' and doesn't see the problem areas.:)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing the different perspective you get from a teenager. They apparently don't have those preconceived color notions we do.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha! My sister in law was here yesterday and wondered if I had the IOP done yet LOL. It's still on the bed. I haven't touched it all summer either! Hopefully, this fall I'll get back to it. Just 5 more units to paper piece and I can put it together, so the end is in sight.
ReplyDeleteYour niece is right - that quilt is gorgeous! Don't stop now. Finish and give it or sell it to someone who will appreciate it.
ReplyDelete(BTW I think it might be an Indian Wedding Ring pattern. The smoother edge is the Orange Peel.)
