My current leader/ender project is the Alamo Star block. I've been making them since the fall last year. They are so cute and fun to sew, but I must admit that it is tedious work to cut out all the little pieces...17 tiny bits for each block!
When the colour of the month is announced for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I get out my batik scrap box and start cutting more leader/ender blocks to sew. This month is green...so here are the Alamo Star blocks I cut out this week to be leader/enders while I finish sewing my UFO quilt top together - before Tuesday! Have I mentioned lately how much I love these Clover binding clips? They are perfect for holding block pieces together!

I never would have thought of clipping the pieces together. I just stack block parts and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteTedious to cut, but such a cute finished product!
ReplyDeleteI just bit the bullet and bought a big pack of those clips on Amazon--they were such a good price I couldn't resist. Thanks for giving me another justification for buying them. : )
You have mentioned before that these blocks are tiny, but this week's photos really illustrate the size. All that cutting does create a great finished star though!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of those little clips--you smart gal! And smart use of your time finishing a little block as a leader-and-ender. The best I do is remembering to sew 2 triangles together--all just stuff, no goals in mind. That's why you get so many lovely projects done. You're organized and thinking ahead.
ReplyDeleteThere are so cute!! Love the use of the clover clips..never thought of using them for that!
ReplyDeleteGreat tiny block - perfect for a leader/ender project.
ReplyDeleteWow you are right they are tiny and look so fiddle, but really nice!
ReplyDeleteI use those wonder clips for everything! Pretty soon I won't have any left for binding... pretty little blocks!
ReplyDeleteKathy, Just had to tell you that I got a small pack of 10 clips and the next day, I wasn't feeling well and my sweet hubby offered to make the run to Joanns for me to get the larger box of 50. I couldn't believe how great they were, for all kinds of things. I can't do a lot of hand sewing, I do a little bit of embroidery at my own slow pace, (I love quilts with the stitchery blocks in them) but I digress, sorry. Even though I don't do my bindings by hand, I used them to secure one side at I machine stitch my bindings on. They are so much easier to remove as I sew than pins. But I also used them for hanging rows of completed blocks together along with a note that includes the row placement info. You'll be surprised how many completed blocks just two clips or three on larger blocks so the middle doesn't sag, will hold on the hanger to keep them looking freshly pressed until your ready to work with them again if your like me and don't have the table space to just stack them. I hang more than one row on a hanger by putting a clip in the center of each set of blocks, holding the row info note to separate them. Or even to display a 'Little Quilt'!!! Now they make a Jumbo Clips too and I just might have to try them one day when I have more 50% off coupons. I was so glad to read that I wasn't the only one that appreciated the versatility of this little treasures. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteGreat to find out the many different ways to use the clips! Your tiny block is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteSmart to clip them all together. I really need to pull out my binding clips for the next binding I put on next week..... I forget I have them until I am almost done.
ReplyDeleteCute little blocks, I need to get another leader/ender project started, good way to get a lot done.
ReplyDeleteI need to start an ender/leader project. Such a good idea. Cute little star blocks. I'm working through my UFO's too.
ReplyDeleteLeaders and enders is such a great way to work on projects. Though I don't think I could work with the small pieces like you are.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! And love this idea for holding your pieces together! Very creative. You should send that idea in to Fons and Porter Magazine for their tips section!
