Do you sew a second line on your HST's to make baby/bonus HST's???!? I am fanatical about this and always save these bits.
When I was looking for some fabric to fill in the side setting triangles on the edges of my UFO's on pointe layout, I found a whole box FULL of little baggies of baby HST's. All sizes and colours...so much fun!
What a great collection I have! I was remembering the projects (or trash bins) they originally came from and was so excited about what I could make with these, that I forgot what I was originally looking for!
Now what was I doing here in the closet?
Oh yah...looking for UFO fabric!
The fabric I had planned to use was just too pink, so I went in search of a green or brown.
So there went another evening of UFO progress/ sewing time wasted!
Now I only have one more week to sew these blocks into a finished quilt top before the end of the month...yikes!
I'm behind on reaching my goal for this month too. I like your blocks!
ReplyDeleteSo what do you do with your little HSTs, besides putting them in baggies? I have bunches but have never used them.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how we are so easily sidetracked in our sewing rooms. I know you will get it finished. The perfect fabric is lurking somewhere in your studio!!
ReplyDeleteI do not save the triangles that are cut away but think it is a good idea. I just know I would not use them. If it is a large enough triangle, I throw it in the scrap basket to be used for applique.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I have a tote with all of mine and a stack by my sewing machine, too. Your's are at least pressed and trimmed in the baggies. You could have some serious fun in those baggies. Best of luck finding the "JUST RIGHT" fabrics to finish your RRCB.
ReplyDeleteI keep all of my bonus triangles (and collect them from other quilters who don't!) ... but mine aren't organized at all and I am a little in awe of your organized-by-size collection!
ReplyDeleteI keep my HST. Usually they get put into pinwheels that go in the middle of a wonky block.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of little HSTs! I save them, too, but I don't always sew them up as I go--usually I use them as leader/enders later on. But I certainly don't have a collection like yours!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, this makes me want to go play with some that I came across the other day that I had forgotten about.
Hope you find just the right fabric for RRCB without encountering more bags of distractions! : )
I totally have quilting ADD - I will disappear down a rabbit hole on a search for something, which leads to a search for something else, which leads to a search for something else and I end up in Narnia having forgotten what I was looking for in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have plastic baggies full of darling HSTs, some of which I have sewn into adorable little pinwheels. I have made doll quilts out of some of them.
So did you find the fabric to complete your UFO??? Quilts just take such a long time to do, each step takes time to get through. It will be a lovely quilt top when you are done. I am making the sister's choice block from watching Quiltcam and I have a great new selection of bonus triangles. It may make a lot of border since I am making 81 blocks!! Good luck on getting this top done.
ReplyDeleteWow! you do have a lot. Love your quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't wasted time. It was 'exploration time' and that's always time well spent. I love bonus HSTs and have a lot of them, but not as many as you.
ReplyDeleteWOW - I do this but yours are organized so neatly - you could actually USE them!!! Thanks for sharing you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteI do that as well. Have a couple of shoe boxes with mine in them. They sit flatter that way. I also have boxes of 1.5" and 2" leader enders. Like someone else said, I think I have quilters ADD!!
ReplyDeleteI have a stash of orphan half square triangles. Some day they will make their way into a project. Your April UFO is looking great. Good luck on getting it completed this month.
