Slow Sunday Stitching - Binding

This week has been full of hand stitching quilt bindings...one of my favorite parts of quilting.
Yes...I could do it by machine, but why would I when I can enjoy some relaxing stitching while watching Bonnie Hunter on Quilt Cam?!?
This is a photo of me stitching the binding on my flannel UFO while watching Bonnie use her hand crank machine. I finished that binding during QuiltCam.

Then I started stitching the binding down on the "Bricks and Stepping Stones" quilt.

I decided to keep track of the number of inches I hand stitch in bindings in 2013...just for fun!
In January I stitched 444" (Virtues, Flannel UFO, and Mini Dresden) of binding!
What are you hand stitching this week?

  1. I started keeping track this year of number of yards used in quilts and started throwing empty spools in a gallon jar but never thought of keeping track of inches of binding. Maybe I'll add a column to my spreadsheet!

A flannel quilt sounds so cozy right now. My house is only heated by wood so it's a little chilly in the morning.

  2. I love your bricks and stepping stones quilt, another great scrappy quilt. Isn't Bonnie the greatest, I need to catch more of her quilt cams, maybe I could get more done.

  4. I love your quilt, the design is so interesting! I usually bind in front of the tv at night, but watching videos is a great idea.

  5. What a fun idea keeping track of your inches stitched :*D I seldom stitch down my bindings by hand unless it is a show quilt, but I do enjoy the stitching when I do.

  6. I have people who do the hand stitching on my bindings. :-) They love doing the handwork, I don't. In fact, I get downright whiny if I have to stitch my own bindings down!

  7. You go girl! That is a lot of binding but, boy oh boy, more importantly it means fewer UFOs.

  8. Great looking quilt. Wow on 444" of binding so far. The only way I would get that much done would be a quilt show dead line.

  9. That is a lot of Binding hand stitched on for one month. But it means the quilts are FINISHED! Hurray! Fun to watch Bonnie's QuiltCAM, knowing a few of my Blogg-y friends are watching too.

  15. I see you are using the Clover clips on the binding. I've just bought a box but haven't had a binding to use them on. It didn't occur to me to use them for hand stitching, but it would be way better than pins. Pins stick you.

  16. I never tire of seeing the Bricks and Stepping Stones quilts. 400 inches of binding--that's a big quilt! Hey--no putting pictures of chocolates on your header--I was GOOD and didn't go down that aisle tonight. And now you're tempting me!
