On my design wall today are my first 20 Alamo Star blocks, which is my leader/ender project. They are so cute and so fun to sew. I can't decide if I should make more blocks with the center square being the same as the star points. I tried two of them and they really jump out at me, so I either need to sew more like that, or stick with making the center squares the same fabric as the background. Any opinions??

I'd make the Alamo Stars one way (your choice) -- with just a few done the other way to provide contrast. What a great L&E project! I'm going to look it up.
I, too, like the center to be the same as the background. However, I like the idea of a couple (2-5) being the same as the star points as that makes for more interest. They would also make a great border.
Oh, the Alamo stars are SO cute! I like the random sprinkling a of a few made the other way--but it is your project. Do what sings to you. I was leaving the LQS the other day and noticed a new display by the door. I realized it was this Swoon pattern, done in Sandy Gervais' new Christmas line. Yes, those are big blocks--and made all the more so by being next to your little Alamo stars.
I absolutely love your mini-Alamo blocks!!! My preference would be with the center the same as the outside fabric because there is more going on that way - more sparkle :*)
I'm working on a mini-Storm at Sea. But I don't think I'll do it as leader/enders. I'm thinking it will be a NewFO next year.
Oh, my, what cute, teeny, tiny stars! Although it sounds like a fun leader-ender project, they might just make me crazy. Love the great big Swoon too, Kathy!
Cute blocks.... how big are they. I like the idea of throwing in some of the star centers the same color as the points. Just enough to spice up the top.
Ohh my gosh what charm and beauty. I immediately thought to take advantage of the creative aspect of that center here and there. Of course, the block is so perfect. You can't go wrong as it is.
Oh My Goodness! What a contrast in size! I never would have guessed the little blocks were that small!! I suppose that means you picked perfect fabrics for the size of those blocks. The looked "normal" sized, 6-10” in your first pic. Amazing! I like a mixture of both types of blocks. Maybe 2/3rd one style and 1/3rd the other style to keep the viewer trying to figure what's the difference? Have fun!!

Good GRIEF! 1-1/2" finished Alamo Stars? I probably couldn't even see them never mind sew them. I'm impressed even though it would give me nightmares.

ReplyDeleteYou do like tiny pieces! Those are really really bright and fun. It will take a gazillon to make a quilt of any size, tho :)
