Then I had a blast machine quilting different designs...
one star to wish on,
and lots of hearts in the center and in the surrounding border,
and the letter 'A' for 'Abbott' in a few of the bubbles printed on the panel.
I was complaining in last Sunday's post about hand appliqueing the baby's name on the bottom of the panel, but it turned out OK. I don't love it, but I can live with it!
I bought the loveliest mint green flannel for the backing from Ye Olde Fabric Shoppe in Stratford (where the panel was purchased). It washed up beautifully and soft, and was a dream to quilt!

Here's the finished quilt...
all ready to take to the baby shower. So cute!
aww, that's really cute. I like to do "custom" work on panels by following the design or lines around or something like that and then maybe a fun filler in the background, I may or may not change threads, I HAVE on a christmas panel, dark blue for the background, a tan for the nativity scene etc.
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Love how you did the quilting and your letters look great!
ReplyDeleteSuch creative stitch lines, it sure added a lot to the finish. Hey, I think your setting for the hand stitching made it an even better place to learn for your friend ~

What a cute quilt! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI have used up to 3 thread colors in one project, but never more than that--yet.
I love your baby quilt! I don't like changing thread colors when I'm quilting because all too often the tension goes wacky...even when I stick with the same brand. But sometimes it is the right thing to do!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww...... that is so sweet!! And the letters for the name look great. You did a good job. Don't give up on applique. It can add a whole new dimension to a quilt.
ReplyDeleteAwwww. Very sweet! You've planted a seed in your friend's mind even if she doesn't respond right now. Nice quilt, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteAdorable, your friend will be proud of her effort in years to come.

ReplyDeleteThe baby quilt turned out cute! I think the name looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet baby quilt! I love the addition of the name...so personal.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I always stick with the same colour of thread within my quilts and it is always a neutral of some sort. I see I need to experiment - the results are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteReally cute panel, and the letters look great too. How fun.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Too bad you couldn't make your friend a convert. At least you had a great time together.
