Design Wall Monday #6

I am getting an early start on this month's UFO challenge project. I already have most of the blocks on the design wall.
This project started about a year ago with a bag of donated scraps, and the pattern is called Hip Baby. I have enough fabric to make this quilt 8 blocks by 10 blocks, and this is the first layout attempt. I see many changes that need to be made, but mostly I am wondering about taking out the dark blue blocks. They really seem to stand out and I don't know if it gives it a punch or is too much of a distraction! What is your recommendation - should the blue stay or go?
To see more design walls, hop over to Patchwork Times and enjoy the inspiration.

  1. I like the darker blue in the picture. I love this combination of colors, too. I think they give it interest, otherwise there aren't any darks at all.

  3. I like the dark blue in there too. Without it, all you have are medium values. I think you need the darker one for some contrast. Would you like it better if you added some darker green too?

  4. I like the dark blue, gives it motion and your eye travels all over. I also love the blocks of plaid in there too. Great scrap quilt

  5. I think you should leave the darker blue in. I think the quilt would look too flat without the dk blue.

  6. Kathy, this is gorgeous and I love the shades of blue! I don't think the dark blue is too much at all -- it's nicely spread throughout the quilt top and adds eye interest! :)

  8. Definitely keep the dark blue. Otherwise it will be too washed out. I love that it is all so bright and happy.

  9. Wow, what a bright quilt this is going to be. I really like the darker blue as it gives the eye something to rest on. Donated, huh? What a gift.

  11. I would agree with most people to leave the dark blue blocks in, they seem to add a pop to your layout. This is going to be neat!

  12. Ha! You asked about the dark blue blocks and your audience has responded! I like them also. And, heck you are closer to the number of blocks you need if you leave them in! Congratulations on being the first person to join Mr. Linky today!

  13. Okay, I'll throw in my two cents worth. The dark blue adds needed contrast for more visual interest. I would leave it in but, as mentioned in another comment, just distribute it evenly throughout the quilt.
This is a very fun and funky design, or should I say very "hip"?

I'd vote to keep the blues. I the tiny image of the quilt that shows up in Judy's linky list, the blue adds so much interest.
