I have the centre part of my Orca Bay mystery sewn together. I made half of the number of blocks for each step, and did not sew any string blocks, so my version looks quite a bit different than Bonnie's. Also I didn't use her colour recommendation and went with the 3 Sisters Grace fabric line, which is the name of my quilt - "3 Sisters Grace".
The rows went together amazingly well and sewing the top together was fun using Bonnie's technique of "webbing".
I'm not sure how many border blocks I will need for this size of quilt, but plan to work on those tonight.
I really like this version of it. Although I like some of the strings on some of the quilts I've seen this looks better to me than most. And, I love red so there is that factor too... nice job.
ReplyDeleteWonderful too with this fabrics choice, bravo !
ReplyDeleteLOVE it, but I'm curious to know why you didn't make the string blocks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteLove that you took the mystery method and made your quilt YOUR way!
ReplyDeleteLovely . . .
Kathy-you smart woman, you--I love this! And thanks to you (or because of, I'm not sure which) I, too, have jumped into Orca Bay. I'll post about it later--but this is fantastic, and uniquely yours!!
ReplyDeleteI love your version!
ReplyDeleteYour version looks great and in a smaller size. What is the size of this quilt going to be when it is done?
ReplyDeleteLOVE that fabric line! I knew that your version of Orca Bay with Grace would turn out to be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color combinations in this quilt. You did a terrific job with your contrasts too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteStrings or not, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. Leaving the strings out lends it a whole different quality.
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty Kathy. Will be looking forward to the border.
ReplyDeleteoh this looks AWESOME!! wow.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so darn beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou've done a wonderful job with this, it is just so visually interesting! Gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous...absolutely Gorgeous! I can't wait to see it completed. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the fabrics and colors! Great job! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI like this soooo much! The strings make the quilt too busy for my taste. Seeing yours, I am going to print the directions and make mine without the strings too. I have a FQ bundle of Glace by 3 Sisters that I will use. I hope you don't mind that I am using your quilt as my quide. My sister who is in Marketing always says, "If you're going to steal an idea, steal a good one!"

It's gorgeous, Kathy! I love that line of fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love your version of the pattern. But then again I love to change up patterns all the time too. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteWow that is stunning!!
ReplyDeleteYour first post on not doing all those million pieces gave me the encouragement to try with larger block pieces, and your finished top shows you were on the right track. This is absolutely a beautiful quilt, and your fabric selections really are perfect! Thanks for the inspiration!

Very pretty! Love the colors!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. I love that fabric line, and I like the way the solid fabrics look in place of the string blocks.
ReplyDeleteA big wow! I like that you used a controlled color palette. And it turned out so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAB-SO-LUTELY GorGEouS! I hope to be this good when I grow up!
ReplyDeleteI remembered when you originally posted your fabric choices that I wondered how you would make this work. It looks beautiful! I'm not a huge fan of strings. Great job! AND you still got to participate in the mystery quilt fun. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteWow! Love your OB!
ReplyDeleteI love it - you have done such a great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. I don't enjoy making strings and next time I try a quilt with them, I will use your method. To my eye, there is plenty of motion and the whole quilt is lovely.

Those fabrics are absolutely beautiful! Such an amazing rendition of Orca Bay
I love your version and would love to make one like yours. Any way you could share your directions. I have Bonnies directions. Did you simply use blocks in place of the string blocks. Email me at jimanddebbie@sbcglobal.net and let me know O.K. Thanks a bunch. I love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rendition of Orca Bay. I love your color selection. I have thought of not doing the string blocks too as I don't really enjoy making them, but I do like the way the look once the quilt is all put together. I love the way yours looks without them too.
