At the beginning of the month, my UFO was a bag of 9 patch blocks from Julie's block swap last year. I was determined that I would have a finished quilt by the end of the month....and I did it!
Once I got the sashings, cornerstones and blocks sewn together, and the borders on, I made up the binding. It just made the finish seem more doable!
How many bobbins do you wind when preparing for machine quilting? I wound 3 but needed 4 for this quilt. (Did you see Jamie's orange quilt that used 22 bobbins...wow!)
During pin basting, the quilt and I discussed many ideas for machine quilting. The quilt convinced me not to do any stitch in the ditch or free motion quilting this time. I did all straight line quilting through the diagonal of the 9 patches and then straight through the middle of the sashings...fun! I used my machinger gloves and they were helpful for moving the quilt through the machine.
It was hard to get a photo of the finished quilt today...it was windy with poor light outside by the time I finished the binding. But it's a finished quilt...woohoo!
It's turned out so lovely. You did amazingly well getting it done in time. The door handle on my sewing room is broken and I can't get in (we have an evil spell on doorhandles in our house) but when I do, you inspire me to finish a project that has been sitting around for a couple of years. It just shows a deadline and some consistent effort works. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome finish!! I am so glad for you...just so pretty, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I really like the little nine patches in the border.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt knew best :) I see one of my blocks in there, it is telling me it is thrilled to be part of a finished quilt! Congrats on making it in four weeks from blocks in a bag to a quilt ready to be snuggled under and loved. Excellent work, Kathy!

I just love this quilt.... find it interesting the light coloured shashings and the border with the blocks....once again you've inspired to use up scraps...
ReplyDeleteGreat job getting this one done! Sometimes even the oldest UFUs come together when they feel ready. This quilt was obviously due to be done. Am always amazed at how many quilts you get quilted on you DSM your shoulders must be killing you today.
ReplyDeleteHappy Dancing here in NC for you in honor of your finish....
ReplyDeleteIt really is LOVERLY..........
You will be walking 6 inches off of the floor all day long in delight.....

I love how you set your nine patches. Josh Groban? You got to see Josh Groban? I'm glad it was a great concert.
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful and the small 9 patches are perfect in the corners.
ReplyDeleteWow. This is lovely. I love the 9-patch pattern but haven't gotten it right yet--at least not to my liking. I have made "okay" 9-patches, but none with the beautiful color scale like you have here. And the border is COOL!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. It is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is just beautiful. The quilting design is perfect for it (and really shows up nicely as diamonds in the borders) and like everybody else, I love the extra touch of the little-9s in the borders!
