I am so excited to show off my design wall today because I have been working really hard on my July UFO, which started off the month as a bag of blocks. Now I have put most of the blocks together with the sashing strips and here it is...
I sewed the blocks and sashings together randomly and am delighted with how it turned out.
There are a couple of spots that I would have organized better if I was planning the layout, and this is an example where 2 of the same sashing strips turned out to be too close together, and 2 of the same blocks are too close together. But that's life in the random lane!
I think I have enough 9 patch blocks left to make one more row if I cut more sashing and cornerstone pieces.
Check out Patchwork Times' Design Wall posting for some creative inspiration.
I think this is fabulous! Good job getting it this far!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! I love this layout
ReplyDeleteWonderful, randomness works!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top looks wonderful! Everytime I visit your blog and see your header I just want to eat it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love quilts with lots of fabrics and randomness, and this one is a jewel!
ReplyDeleteI just love nine patches...yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!!! Love all the different fabrics...there are the ones I made!!
ReplyDeleteLooking terrific! I had such fun making blocks and swapping. Glad you're getting this UFO off your list in such a wonderful way!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love those nine patch blocks!
ReplyDeleteIt is tough to beat the classics - the scrappy sashing adds so much to your fun quilt top!
ReplyDeleteI love this scrappy 9-patch. I understand the issue of the "too close together" matching stuff. I feel that way about my own work, but never notice it in anyone else's. Until, of course, they photograph it and post it on their blog. : )
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, Kathy. Love the scrappiness; more scraps coming your way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Nothing like a 9-patch quilt!
ReplyDeleteHope you have enough of what you need for your next row. I'm thinking it would be perfect to finish it off without any additional borders...as long as it's the size you want. Any thoughts on binding color yet? Sandi
ReplyDeleteSweet quilt top--a 9-patch is always a classic. I like your line, "That's life in the random lane." I'm going to quote you some time, if I may. Great line!
ReplyDeleteWonderful 9-patch, love the colors!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the way this is turning out. Only you will see those blocks so close together. Everyone else will be looking at the whole picture and it is gorgeaous.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I adore nine patches they are my very fav.

All that sashing!!!!!.....WOW! Great looking UFO-near-finish Kathy!
ReplyDeleteOH! Upon a closer look....I also LOVE to see that not all the 9-patches have "darks" in the corners; this is a true treasure to show it's okay to scrap-it-up!
It's awesome the way it is, I love random even if 2 of the same blocks are too close, it gives that little bit of interest.
ReplyDeleteI love those nine patches. They look like antique blocks. Great quilt Kathy!
ReplyDeleteWow! Love the 9 patches! Congrats on making such a dent in one of your UFOs.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kathy, I love it. It's a fabulous scrappy quilt. Great use of the nine patches. Would you mind if I did something similar?
ReplyDeleteLove it! Trying to be random is never easy, but finding the hidden patterns and repeats just adds to the fun. Congratulations on getting to this stage. No more quilt guilt over a baggie of blocks.
ReplyDeleteI ABSOLUTELY, Positively LOVE this quilt!!!!!
