This is what I am up to this week.I have been sewing strings together to make a border for my May UFO and trying to finish it by the end of May...
yep, that's tomorrow!
The strings are coming from these scrap bags that my friend Sandy passed on to me. It's a different feeling (no nostalgia!) to sew scraps that I "don't know" but I am thankful to have them for this border.
This is how far I was as of yesterday. That is not even enough for 3 sides of the quilt! I think I might take out the soccer ball strips cause they really stand out.
And which quilt is getting these scrappy borders?
It's this scrappy spiderweb quilt that I started sewing many years ago. It has been in hiding for so long that there isn't a photo of it or any mention of it on my blog. I tried to remember when I started it...I know my kids were very young. But I see some millenium fabric in the blocks, so maybe it was around 1998/1999.
If I matched up the intersection of 8 pieces, the purple edges were
impossible to match.
So, when it's number came up for the UFO this month, I just went ahead and sewed the blocks together the best I could and kept telling myself that "finished" is better than "perfect".
I was hoping to be able to have another finished quilt from my UFO list, but I think my goal for this month will have to be the satisfaction of finishing the top.

ReplyDeleteYou know in the end, it doesn't matter if it's perfect or not. I think that is part of what makes this type of quilt so wonderful. You just have to make it work the best you can. Personally I think it's fabulous and can't wait to see it with the border.

ReplyDeleteAnd, once it gets loved and crinkled and snuggled, those seams (matching or not) won't even be a thought in one's mind. LOVE the pattern!
Scrap quilts are so forgiving. Enjoy the top and don't fret over imperfections. It looks great. My spider web is next in the hand quilting queue.

ReplyDeleteLooks great! The number 1 qulting rule I learned from my first quilt class is "If you can't see it from a galloping horse, it's not important." But I like "Done is better than Perfect tool". Good luck getting the top completed.

ReplyDeleteI love it....you are sewing with scraps that you don't know. Maybe that is my problem. I've looked at these containers of scraps that I have and would be more excited if I had some that I hadn't looked at for months...maybe years. Love your quilt.

I'm so glad you posted this and I love the comments. I too am having the same problem. You mighta have seen mine on my design wall. I don't know why...I made one before,I still have it, and I didn't have this problem. I've thought about finishing mine and making it a donation quilt. Good for you for getting it finished. Toni
ReplyDeleteI didn't even notice the miss match until you pointed it out...only tell your quilting friends...no one else will notice at all! And I too love "Done is better than Perfect."

ReplyDeleteI luike the scrappy border, It fits the quilt. Good luck getting it quilted, you did have a busy month in May. You can always put a YO Yo over the seams that don't match, my first Quilt teacher did that sometimes...
