Every Sunday we roll out the welcome mat for like-minded hand stitchers to gather for a party. Thank you for joining us! We encourage you to get out your hand stitching project and put in a few stitches. Then make yourself a cup of your favourite beverage and visit other hand stitchers around the world to see what they are working on today.
On Friday the calendar told us that the first day of "spring" had arrived, but the weather here has not been cooperating with the calendar.
I finished the stitching on "Robins and Raindrops" by Helen Dailey. The name of the project tickles me because there are no birds or rain in this project! It was very fun, especially making the snail and the tiny bees.
I went ahead and made it into a pillow yesterday and I just hate how it turned out!
It is stuffed with polyfil, but I had to pull in the back so much to stitch it closed that it just looks weird - you can't see the ric rac on the top and bottom. I think I'm taking it apart today and see what I can do for a finish I will like better. (The little robin redbreast pillow I made last year).
I saw this on Quilting Gail's blog and I related to it! My quilt studio is a disaster after attending the celebrations for International Quilt Day sponsored by my quilt guild (via zoom). I was sorting scraps and made such a mess that I will likely spend most of today cleaning it up! And I will wear my "work uniform"! 😂😂😂
What are you hand stitching today? Will you be wearing your "uniform"? Link up your update below and share your slow progress with us.

I love seeing Spring themed projects. Your pillow looks overstuffed—-maybe you just need to take some of the stuffing out and it will look better. Cute bird on your cross stitch and the snail and bees are adorable. My sewing room needs some TLC too.
ReplyDeleteYour Spring stitches are so cute, Kathy! Even if the latest finish doesn't have any birds or raindrops, at least it has pretty flowers. Have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI love the uniform!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like your fix to the Bulbs, Blooms, Robins, Raindrops. It is a sweet piece of stitchery.
ReplyDeleteYou have some fun comments in the works. We seemed to have moved directly from winter into summer. Such weird weather this year! Enjoy your stitching time, uniform or not.
ReplyDeleteI like your Spring themed projects. I am sure you will be able to fix that pillow. It just may be over stuffed. I can't work on anything in my pajamas. I must be dressed to start my day.
ReplyDeleteYour hand stitching is beautiful. Have you come across Home Dec Gal's posts on Instagram? She does professional drapery workroom sewing and has some posts where she demonstrates adding piping and mitered fabric borders to needlepoint for pillows. It really frames the stitching beautifully, and one benefit of the border is that it enables you to taper the corners of the pillows to improve the shape of the pillow after stuffing. Not sure if I copied the right link from Instagram to show you: https://www.instagram.com/p/DPj8DpQEnrO/. Oh, and no, I am never stitching in my "uniform" on Sundays because I get up early, put on a dress, drink too much caffeine, and then go sing at multiple church services for four hours before coming home to eat, change into sweatpants, and THEN start sewing. Or fall asleep with needles and fabric in my hands, same difference. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy quilting day had to wait till Sunday instead of Saturday. I was tempted to wear my work uniform but leggings would have to do. Getting projects finished and today(Monday) I got an order for a quilt to be made for a friend's granddaughter. Ya me!! Start looking at your calendar, I want to have the Piranhas up North soon maybe May or June.
