Happy New Year and welcome to the first hand stitching party of 2026! Did you get any stitching supplies or patterns that you have had a chance to play with over the holidays?
I have been busy working on some older projects and starting a few new ones. You can see what I worked on for the 12 x 12 New Year Eve stitching (12 projects in 12 hours) in the video I posted today.
Here is the project I started in December called "A Pretty Song" which is a collaboration by Evertote, Roxy Floss Co. and Modern Folk Embroidery. I think that this is the most intricate detailed item I have ever stitched and I really love all the details. There is still so much more to stitch, but I will keep at it because there are more birds to be stitched and gorgeous blue wings to attach to the 2 main birds. So fun!I enjoyed a stitching day with some friends on January 1st and there were 2 in our group that brought hand stitching to work on. Pat worked on hand quilting a baby quilt. I hope you can see the original quilting design that included hearts and straight lines around an embroidery block (of kittens playing in a washtub).
Friend Marg started a hand embroidery block but didn't make much progress and had to leave early because her husband has been so ill. Every stitch counts and every visit with friends is helpful!
I was piecing a mystery quilt from Scrapdash that was very fun and great to use up scraps. But I was often found playing with the dog Molly instead, because she makes herself impossible to resist! I kept trying to tell her that I was very busy sewing, but she didn't care about that!
So that's what I have been up to with stitching this week. What have you been working on? Link up your blog post below and share your 2026 projects with us!
