Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! We invite you to settle in for some relaxation, visit our inspiring stitchers at the links below, and take some time to put a few stitches in one of your favourite projects.

This week I finished stitching the unique animals in
the Needlework Press "Gather Together" which is a collection of 9  unusual animals (patterns from antique samplers). I worked on this project while watching the Blue Jays world series and it helped to bring me joy even though they lost the last game! I think I will finish it into a little wallhanging to use for Thanksgiving.

My full coverage project also got some attention this week and is almost at 10% of the total stitches. This
is a Heaven and Earth Design pattern called Mini Treasure Hunt Bookshelf stitched on 25 count  easy grid lugana. There are lots of blank places across the top of the design until I decide if I am going to use white threads or Kreinik threads which would be prettier and sparkly, but which I detest stitching with. Maybe I'll put in some stitches in both options and see which I think looks best.

Today I'll be working on binding a quilt for the quilt guild. It will be a relaxing and enjoyable task - my favourite mindless hand stitching!

What are you hand stitching today? Link up your slow progress below!

  1. The Gather Together cross stitch is a lovely finish. There's lots of vibrant colours in the Mini Treasure Hunt Bookshelf pretty. I'm not a fan of cross stitching with sparkly threads either.

  2. Gather together is perfect to display at Thanksgiving. Your full coverage piece is looking great. I hate stitching with sparky threads too. This is definitely a slow stitching project ! Enjoy hand stitching that binding.

  3. Your latest finish is lovely. I agree with you about the Kreinik threads, nice to look at, hard to stitch with!!

  4. Gather Together is a really pretty design - I like all those animals! You're making good progress on the full coverage piece, too. What is it about sparkly threads? I tried a silver floss once and won't be doing that again either. Have a wonderful Sunday stitching that binding, Kathy!

  5. I agree, the Kreinik threads are so pretty but they are not pleasant to use!

  6. The quilt you are stitching the binding on for the guild is cute. Gotta love 4-patches. Binding used to be one of my least favorite parts to the quilt. I liked it so little and started to sew bindings on by machine for YEARS. Now (with the help of your blog), I have sharpened my skills enough to enjoy binding! In fact, I am constantly looking for projects that have been UFOs for years to finish them so that I can sit under a quilt during this time of year in the evenings while watching tv.

  8. Hi Kathy, I was reading another quilting blog (Quilt Obsession) that you commented on several years ago and you mentioned that you had the pattern for the Summer Picnic Dish. I would love to make this quilt, but can't find the pattern anywhere. Can you help? Thanks so much!

  11. "Gather Together" will make a wonderful piece to display for Thanksgiving. I'm sorry the Bluebird in it didn't bring the Jays any luck! I've heard enough bad things about Kreinik in the few years I've been stitching to not even want to try it! I do have a project that I bought some Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid that I hope will be easy to use.

  12. Your sampler is really cute. The colors in your bookshelf are so luminous, that's going to be a very pretty finish. Hope you got in lots of stitching time this week.
