Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! Grab a beverage and your favourite hand work project and enjoy some time with like-minded stitchers.

I finished a quilt last week and enjoyed stitching down the binding late at night. It was so relaxing.  I love the cardinal backing fabric and the striped binding! I'll post more about this quilt tomorrow.

And of course I had to start a new cross stitch project this week because of Flosstube. And also because of this beautiful alphabet sampler design, and the  pretty DMC floss.
Resistance is futile!

Here is my start.
I am stitching on 32 count Parisian Linen using 3 strands (for better coverage) over 2 threads. Look at me using the cross stitch lingo that I have recently learned! I started with the letter 'K' of course!
And we are not talking about all the other cross stitch projects I have in progress since I re-discovered my oldest UFO from 1991! I may soon need an addiction intervention!

What are you hand stitching today? Have you started too many projects in 2023? In the comment section, please add your tips for managing a severe case of Startitis!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  1. What a lovely pattern this alphabet sampler is and the thread colours are pretty. You certainly do sound as if you have been at this cross stitch caper for a long time. =) Alas I cannot help you with your Startitis, as I suffer from this affliction, too.

  2. Hi Kathy! Thanks for your inspiration each Sunday and your linky party too! I wonder where you would find Parisian Linen you are using for your K project... I love the stripes and miss working on Linen or other natural substrates. Thanks!

  3. Oh my, Kathy you're brave for cross stitching on 32 linen. At least this means your eyes are healthy enough or that the magnifyer is being put to good use. Yes, beautiful DMC floss. Happy slow stitching.

  4. That alphabet pattern is quite appealing to me. Yours will be pretty, and as I watch you work through this, I may just find that I cannot resist. Have a lovely week, and thanks for hosting a fun party every Sunday!

  5. This new cross-stitch project is very pretty. I love that striped fabric. I really hope you finish some of the other cross-stitch WIPs you have though. I adore that cardinal backing fabric. I can't wait to see the finished quilt.

  12. Hi Kathy, I finally made your party! Isn't it crazy how shiny new projects are irresistible? I really know the feeling and suffer from the same happy affliction :-) Thanks for the party and have a great week.

  15. I love starting new projects and I started a new cross stitch of a Yorkshire terrier. I didn't mean to start it but it kept calling to me and the pattern is so cute, so what else could I do. Love the sampler design you are doing.

  16. Ohhhh I can definitely understand the lore of a new project. I think the reason I gave up cross-stitching was it took so long for me to get any one project done. Now it's all English paper piecing, hand appliqueing, and hand quilting! Love your projects!

  18. I have four more quilts to bind and love the process. Slow stitching is so healing. Your new cross stitch project is so pretty! I’m going to be picking up simple cross stitch again. My grandson says he’s too old for the annual Christmas softies I make him, so I’ll be switching to Star Wars cross stitch tree ornaments. How I love slow stitching – even more than machine stitching! 😊
Tips for Startitis? Determination. I’m determined to stitch through my Christmas stash, so I’ve continued starting and finishing those projects.
Will Power: My will power is coming from helping a friend who collects much of everything organize one room in her home. It was overwhelming.
A Reality Check. Simultaneously clearing out my recently passed brother-in-law’s home as well as my parent’s home (they relocated to San Diego) has been a definite reality check as to what my daughter will face in the future with my own home. I’m loathe to put her through the same painful experiences I’ve had these last few weeks.
So, for the last few months, I’ve managed to only purchase ¾ yard of fabric and one wool embroidery kit and focus on those UFOs.
It is nice to see increasingly less space is given to UFOs and my sewing studio is a more enjoyable work space.
But…..I am planning to purchase and play with Lella Boutique’s new Christmas line that is coming out this May! 😊 Ahhhh…..the wheel keeps spinning!
    Happy stitching!
