A hearty welcome to all you stitchers! Thanks for dropping by to see what the Slow Sunday Stitching crew is creating this week.
As you know I have been feeling under the weather, and thought it might be interesting for you to see the medicines I have been taking for cough and congestion. Vicks is such an ancient remedy and who even knows if it helps at all, but I grew up with it, so I still use it. Am I missing out on a good remedy? Let me know!
The photo shows the 4 types of marking tools I use - a hera marker (1st choice), pencil (last choice), white Bohin chalk marker (2nd choice) and Frixion pen (3rd choice). In making the choice of markers, it really depends on the lighting, and the colour of fabric I am quilting. I use whatever I can see the best, and yet not leave a permanent mark.
I'll be relaxing and hand quilting today and hope you will give yourself some time to rest with your needles and thread too. We sure do enjoy seeing what you are hand stitching and cheering you on, so if you want to post your project the link is below.
I hope you feel better soon! I'm glad you feel well enough to hand quilt!
ReplyDeleteI find Duro-Tuss to be effective, and I always find hot fresh lemon and honey drinks to be good, too. I have never used Vaporub; even as a child. I hope you are better and back to your old self soon. Enjoy your day snuggling under your quilt while you add a few more quilting stitches to it. Take care.
ReplyDeletei still use the vicks vaporub...tried and true i think!
ReplyDeleteVicks Vapor Rub is good for so many other things. We put it on the bottom of our feet and our chest when we have congestion. I also use it on toenail fungus. It takes a longer than the med the foot doctor said he would prescribe, but he said that Vicks Vapor Rub worked so much better for toenail fungus than what he could prescribe even though it took longer. Hope you feel better soon! We also use Niquil at night so that we get rest and sometimes Alka-Seltzer cold during the day for congestion.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon. There are so many remedies, not sure if any of them will actually cure you, but many make you feel better, if only for a brief time. I too, use Vicks. Lots of liquids, lots of rest seem to work best.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you've been under the weather, hope you are feeling much better today. I've not used Vicks in years, it was one my mother used on us when we were sick. The only tip I learned when Grad Girl was little was to alternate between Tylenol and Advil. That does seem to do a better job of control fever and the aches.
ReplyDeleteGoodness! I hope you get to feeling better very soon! I still use Vicks as well! Perles seem to cut my cough rather quickly. This copycat recipe for Starbuck’s Medicine Ball Tea/Honey Citrus Mint Tea does the trick for me. I use whichever brand of tea I can find that closely matches the original recipe and lately have found that I love the taste of adding a second peach tea bag. It’s so comforting that I’ll drink two or three cups a day! Hope this helps! 😊

I still use Vick's too if I have chest congestion. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better each day, Kathy! Some hand quilting seems like the perfect remedy for what ails you. I've used those same tools for marking as you - they all work fine, depending on the area you want to mark!
ReplyDeleteHopefully you are on the mend! Your quilt is lovely and if you are on the border, the end is in sight, even if still distant!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon.
I have always found that Vicks gives great relief. There is now a shower and a bath Vicks product as well as one in a stick to rub on. I always find tea to be helpful, but I stay away from Tylenol if I can as it gives me a nasty post nasal drip. I hope you are soon able to finish all the quilting on that pretty quilt. I hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, do feel better soon! I find a long hot bath works wonders.
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny what we use for remedies. Looking at what you use, you could transport that picture to my counter. The only difference would be that I take Ibuprofen instead of Tylenol. I grew up on Vicks, used it with my kids, and still use it. My kids (even the ones who have left home) still use Vicks. Interesting, right?
ReplyDeleteI will be stitching this morning (I stitch every morning to try to start the day off right) and then going on a long walk with the hubby.
Enjoy your day!
Thanks for sharing your remedies. My mother was a big fan of Vicks rub, and I don't remember to use it - I should! Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago when we were visiting my step-daughter in TX, she made a concoction with lemons, mashed up fresh ginger and honey with hot water added to make a "tea". It did relieve congestion and ease a sore throat. Hope you are nearing the end of your misery.

Oh my whatever you have is hanging on...hope you are better soon! My choice of marking utensils are pencil, chalk marker and sometimes a hera marker. I don't trust anything coloured (blue, red or yellow) and I have never used frixion pens. I have read they are not really for fabric so afraid to use them. Basic utensils work best for me!
ReplyDeleteYes,I’m a Vick’s fan! Put it on the bottom of your feet when you go to bed. Last year I had a cough and my aunt brought me the Cough Syrup and Elderberry juice from Rose Casa (sold locally) and it broke up my congestion https://www.rowecasaorganics.com/collections/wellness We love all their products. Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, it's very ok to rest - especially if your body needs it! My cough medicine go to is Benelyn or Buckleys (2nd choice since it's so aweful!) While my daughter was sick, I went through a dozen lemons, making her a drink with 1/2 of a lemon, hot water and honey. That seems to have helped a lot. I'm also drinking ginger tea with honey in the evening - it's so soothing and not as acidic. Hope you get well soon!
