Scrappy Saturday

When I was visiting my friend Deanna earlier this month, she showed us a gorgeous scrap quilt that had won a 1st place ribbon at the fair. I fell in love immediately and started planning to make a similar one in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge style. The original pattern was called "When this you see" by Lydia Quigley of The Rabbit Factory. I searched for the pattern on the internet but couldn't find it.

It is a 2 block quilt, with one block being a 25 patch made from scraps, and the second block being a framed sawtooth star. Deanna made her version totally scrappy, and I think mine will be controlled scrappy.

This is the tester 3"  sawtooth star block made in blue/blueish for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour of the month. So cute!

This is a practice scrappy 25 patch block. I don't know how many blocks I'll make each month or where this quilt is going yet - it's a fresh idea, still germinating.

  2. That's a beautiful quilt! Perfect for scrappy inspiration. I've seen a similar design with the place where your stars being blank white space. I like the stars there! Have fun playing with that design!

  3. Kathy:

Wedding Dress Blue quilting blog has a tutorial for this pattern. She called it Irish Stars and had a quilt along a few years ago. I made it and I love the quilt.

  7. Your star block is so cute! The Irish Star from The Wedding Dress Blue has been on my list for a very long time. It would be fun to make this in 2023 along with you. Do you mind if I do? I will use Wedding Dress Blue's pattern to make the stars. It will be different from yours also because I'll make mine a scrappy zero-control type of quilt. It'll be fun. I just hope I'll be able to keep up with you. What do you say? ;^)

  11. That’s an awesome scrap-busting quilt. And I’m sure your controlled color version will be amazing. Like the others, I want to make one too! It’s too bad we all need to sleep, eh?

  12. It was fun to make this quilt and it used up lots of scraps but I still have many scraps left to use! Kathy your blues look so pretty and soft. It was a pattern I bought a while ago and a friend wanted to do a scrappy leader and ender quilt...I picked this one for her and I to do together. My top is done but she hasn't started yet. She has a box of batik scraps that she will be using.
