Triangle Paper

I have been participating in the "Oh say can you sew" mystery and last month we were given advanced notice that for step #5 we would be making 1" HST.

So I invested in a Primitive Gatherings product called Triangle Paper. The product costs $9, but if you have it sent to Canada, with shipping costs of $15, taxes, and the currency exchange, it ended up costing me $31.74.

That's okay - I knew it would be a pricey purchase but really wanted to try it out!

First step was to watch Lisa's instructional video.  This is the block we're making with 9 HST's sewn together. I am totally surprised that with no trimming, the blocks are coming out the exact perfect size! I have to make about 30 blocks per week to be ready for the next clue in September.

Here is a photo to show you the scale. These are sweet little blocks which make me very happy, but I can imagine that not all the mystery quilt makers are feeling the same!

Have you tried this triangle paper? Do you like it for making small blocks?

  1. They are small pieces. I have not used that paper before

  2. I don’t not like using triangle papers. I find them extremely boring to sew and dislike the de-papering. Can’t argue with perfect results though.

  3. I normally use Thangles for triangle paper and I always use it for triangles smaller than 2". I can't imagine making small HST's without it!

  4. I've used a similar one from Moda called Cake Mix #3. They make a lot of HSTs fast!

  5. I've not tried the Primitive Gatherings product before. I've used Thangles (many years ago) and printed some templates from the internet before. You really do get accurate hst using paper piecing. Nice blocks, by the way.

  6. it is nice to find the accuracy for the tiny blocks using the paper. I just wish the product prices wouldn't be so high for shipping. It really makes it hard to do much. There used to be a CD that had a program on it specifically for that and you could print it out yourself - but now they do not even have those on computers so you can use them.

  7. Your block looks great! I love triangle paper for fiddly little things too. I have a computer program called 'Triangulations'. I got it through Amazon years ago. You just print the pages you need and all sizes are on the CD. ;) It also has lines to cut off all the dog ears. Have a great week!

  8. I have tried P. G. Triangle Papers, but I like a thinner paper. So I have Triangulation software, like Sandie, and I print my triangles on newsprint sheets I got from Amazon. Still gives accurate results, but tears away even easier.

  9. I've seen these papers and wondered about them. I like to get away from the ruler and measuring on my own so have an interest in them. So they seem to work out perfectly. I will note this and the interesting comments it has gotten. Thanks for sharing Kathy.

  10. Triangle paper, in one form or another, has been around for years. I have a drawer full of different sizes and manufacturers, but I rarely use it. But then, I don't make 1" HST either.

  11. I have used a computer program called Triangulations that lets you print out many sizes of half and quarter square triangles and like using paper methods like this very much

  12. I think you made a wise purchase. Stress-free piecing.

  13. I use a product called Triangles on a Roll. I believe the company that makes the product was recently bought by the fat quarter shop people. I love the stuff!! Great for mindless sewing. Sometimes I just need to not think and just sew...
