Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! Can you believe this is the last link up for February? Even though it was a short month that went by so quickly, I did accomplish quite a bit of hand stitching this month.
I was happy last week to get more blue Sudz yarn to continue knitting my unfinished dishcloth. I was 6 rows short of the blue yarn I needed and so relieved that my store (Galt House of Yarn) could find the same colour. While I was there I bought this pretty icy orange colour too!
The dishcloth was gifted to my long time friend Diane whose favourite colour is blue. The pattern is from Knitwits Heaven.
I also have hand stitched some binding this month. I finished a placemat (using Thera-Gloves) and a comfort quilt that I will post more details about tomorrow.
And I started hand quilting my embroidered word meditation. I'm trying a blue marker for the first time and feel quite nervous about it. It's marvellous for seeing the quilting lines, but I'm worried that the lines won't wash out. I drew the lines 3/4" apart and plan to quilt without a hoop.
What are you hand stitching today? I hope you will share your ideas and projects on the blog and instagram posts.
It’s always a relief when yarn/supplies arrive that are needed to finish a project. Total understanding on the blue lines on fabric. Will they wash out, will they come back. Although many quilters use them with success.
ReplyDeleteFebruary has zoomed by, hasn't it? Your friend's blue dishcloth is such a pretty blue; and the pattern with the knitted word friend, is lovely. The diagonal quilting on your Meditation pretty will be fabulous. I would be nervous about those blue lines, too, but they should wash out.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue friend dish towel and the glove you are wearing and your meditation words... I use the blue water soluble markers all the time... no need to be nervous... when you finish the center markings spritz it clean .... give it a couple hours of layout out and you can use that same marker to mark your borders :) It's fab... you may see a bit come back as it dries but just spritz it again or wash it to get it saturated and it will all disappear forever wash dry done! :) Enjoy !!!! Kathi
ReplyDeletePretty blue dish cloth, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteHope the blue pen marks disappear easily. Didn't you test it before using it?
Happy stitching. Happy Sunday!
big dishcloth if it takes 6 skeins LOL - The meditation words with border is pretty.
ReplyDeleteI do hope the lines wash out! It is such a good piece!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue markers and use them all the time. I have never had a problem with them.
ReplyDeleteI have used the blue wash out pen on all my hand quilted quilts for over 20 years and have never had a line stay in - make sure to complete soak through and do not put in the dryer or an iron - when the piece is completely dry then if it needs an iron it is ok - but it has to be thoroughly wet to rid the lines - it works perfectly if directions are followed. The water has to soak through the batting in a quilt too to make sure the blue hasn't migrated to the batting and is still in the quilt.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the yarn was acquired and your Friend dish cloth came out great. Enjoy your relaxing stitching today.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty yarn. Glad you managed to finish your friends gift
ReplyDeleteLove the blue Friend wash cloth and the icy orange yarn is such a pretty color.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteYour dishcloths are pretty, and I like your placemat. I know what you mean about marking your quilt...I'm really reluctant to put marks on my quilts....but since I don't quilt them, I tie them, I don't have to worry about that. Have a great day!
I love the meditation words mini and the blue lines should wash out oK. The blue dishclth is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat finishes and almost finishes! I love the blue washcloth and your meditation words! Happy stitching!

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty dish cloth and I love your embroidery work. I am looking forward to hearing your opinion on the blue pen after your quilt is finished. I haven't tried one yet either. Happy quilting.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got that blue yarn. I really like the orange yarn also. I have used the blue marker in the past and never had a problem with it.
ReplyDeleteI can recall when you first showed the beginning of your knitting journey. Your dishcloths are so lovely! I've used the blue marker with no issues, but am still nervous every time! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information you've shared over the years regarding the benefits of slow stitching. I've shared your knowledge in the hopes that others will also enjoy this wonderfully healing activity.
