Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to the weekly hand stitching party! It's the last Sunday before Christmas, so I know all you hand stitchers are busy finishing and wrapping up gifts. Have you got your hand stitching projects to the point where they might be ready for Christmas?

These days I'm taking life at a slower pace and I immediately shut down any grandiose ideas of "I could make this for ___" prior to Christmas!

If I really like the idea, I tell myself that I will make it next year for that person. But I will not start any last minute creative impulse projects that end up causing me stress with a Christmas deadline!

I have been slowly embroidering some little tiny designs from the Hugs and Kisses mystery advent stitch-along. I have finished a couple of the stitcheries, but mostly I am looking forward to some slow stitching after the holidays.

What are you hand stitching today? I hope you will take some time today to rest, to put some stitches into a gift for someone special (including yourself!) and reduce the level of stress you are experiencing. Feel free to call this "mandatory preventative medicine".

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  1. I am trying to finish a Christmas stocking, but I pretty much know that is a pipe dream this year so I am just enjoying the stitching.

  2. I shut down the list here too, Kathy, no more handmade gifts prior to Christmas.
I am only cross stitching little embroidery for when baby grandchild arrives.
Whishing you a happy, relax and healthy week.
Merry Christmas fou you and your family.

  3. I like to take big doses of that "mandatory preventive medicine" any time of the day, week, month or year! I highly recommend it! Happy holidays!

  4. Your advent embroideries are cute! I like to get my handmade gifts done early to take the pressure off. I just have a couple of things to finish off and I am done. Merry Christmas, Kathy! Thanks for hosting this group every week.

  6. Let's try this again:

I am under a time crunch for one gift, but since I have a family reputation for gifting half done gifts and taking them back to finish in January, I'm not worried.

  7. it is so totally understandable to not start one more holiday gift at this late point - it would be stressful not fun in my opinion!

  8. Once again, I have grand plans and here I am a week away with much not done. I planned to get out my Christmas books and look through them for fun (with no expectation of doing the projects) and didn't get to that either. I didn't get to the cards I wanted to make either. Cookies today, and maybe cards this week, but I am not putting any pressure on myself to do it. Merry Christmas week, enjoy the holidays!

  9. I will be hand stitching the binding on two mug rugs I made to send to someone who mailed me a box of cookies. I'm pretty much skipping Christmas this year.

  12. I have shut down my sewing room except for some (have to do it as I so love to sew!!) scrap fun sewing -- not for any specific project just 2 patches, flip corner triangles on extra squares of all sizes...and the only real project I
am working on is my sock knitting a few rounds at a time each day...
I plan to leave it all til after the Holidays...hoping that my sciatica and sore ankle will be better so I can resume my normal puttering around..
I love those little embroideries...what fun (I had to download them for the future...mais certainment!!);)))
    Hugs, Julierose

  13. No large pre-holiday sewing this year, though I thought about making new pajama pants for the grandsons. That can wait, though!
Your little stitcheries are sweet! Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  14. I have just a couple of small things to do. I have the materials to make some Christmas gnomes, an easy project I can do in a day when the grandkids are here this week. If I don't finish them, it is no big deal. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

  15. Hi Kathy, good for you for not succumbing to those last minute Christmas gifts...I haven't learned that lesson quite enough yet LOL I'm glad that I finally got to post my traveller's blanket - I kept missing the deadline :-) My machine is finally back from the shop, so there is going to be lots of FMQ during my holidays (I hope!) Have a wonderful, stress free Christmas and holiday season!
