New Project - Step #4

The best thing about a quilt challenge is that at the beginning you have no idea what to make, and eventually your creative brain makes decisions and gives you direction, and before you know it, you're making something. It might not be something you like, but if you're open to the creative process, it's a fun ride!

In making my version of the Sister's Scrap Challenge I have been asking myself "what could I do to help me like this project more"?

I had to deal with this ugly fabric and the best way to deal with ugly is to cut it into small pieces. So I made 4 more friendship stars with the background blue fabric and the ugly. It's not too terrible.

Let's see how it's coming together with all the decisions made so far. Here is the design wall situation today.

Gulp! Well, so far it's a dog's breakfast and maybe that's the name of this quilt?!?! I'll keep asking myself what I could change/add to help me to like this more and see where it takes me!

  1. I like it. Do you have any more of the circles? They would look great in the center of a friendship star. Can't wait to see the finish! Violet.

  2. LOL, dog's breakfast, love that British expression! I like it, a child would be delighted with this. Looks like you have the making of a fun block on the upper and middle left.

  3. On the bottom row from the left is a strip with an orange rectangle, if you turn it on its side and place it as a middle row in between the four stars above it, it will create something different. Then you can rotate some of the strips below this section?

I think quilting will definitely improve this quilt.

  7. It’s an interesting beginning. The expression “a dog’s breakfast” made me smile. I’m sure it will grow on you as you work on it. Maybe a play quilt or a picnic quilt or for a youngster. Someone will love it.

  10. I agree with Maggie- maybe spread those stars out some. It's a dog's breakfast!! Too funny.

  11. Good name for the quilt. What about some sashing if you could add more of your own fabric

  12. Could you maybe save the dark stars for another project and if you have to use that dark fabric, could it be sashing or a border? Just seems the dark stars weigh down what those soft stars had lightened up. And there is my unsolicited, unwanted opinion. LOL
