Slow Sunday Stitching

Welcome to our weekly hand stitching party!

Yesterday was International Quilting Day and I celebrated with my local guild as they co-hosted a full day of online events. I taught a hand quilting class with a slide show of my projects and demonstrated my technique on my current project. It reminded me of how much I truly love hand quilting and want this method of quilt making to be passed on to the next generation.

I put more stitches into this little lap quilt which was my demo project, and just love the texture that the wool batting gives. I think I'm sold on wool as my new favourite batting!

What did you work on for International Quilting Day?? What are you putting stitches into today?

Happy 1st day of Spring everyone (or autumn if you live in another hemisphere) ! Please share your projects with us today!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  5. Unfortunately, I dealt with the side effects of my second covid shot, but I'll take that over having the virus! Will need to catch up this week.

  7. Well Kathy - nothing to show this week, but will have something next week. Life is getting back to normal and I am really enjoying having peace and quiet, no issues, just getting used to doing what I want to do when I want to! LOL. Hugs I wish I could have joined your class yesterday - next time. Hugs

  9. Here's a little hint for ya! When you are done your quilt with a wool batt, shake it out, like you are shaking dirt out of a mat...the batt will puff up even more. A friend told me about this years ago.

  10. Dear Kathy,
Handquilting is what made me want to quilt. For years, even after hubby bought me the quilters edition sewing machine, I could not cross the divide to quilt by machine. Only eight years after he bought me the machine, do I do so. Thanks to tons of snow, which kept me indoors. The joy and the rhythm of quilting by hand is a special time, a gift we get to gift ourselves and to just be. How many times do we sit down to do a few stitches and end up doing a lot more, as we just relaxed and daydream. Alas, yesterday was a recovering day for me, my frozen shoulder is keeping me from doing any of the things I want to do. So with everything else in life, it takes time and patience. Glad You Had an amazing day yesterday!

  12. I am so happy you are spreading the word about hand quilting being so enjoyable too Kathy. And they could not have a better guide! I've been heartened to see how many younger folks have started cross stitching for instance. It is gratifying to know the appreciation of these pastimes will continue.
