Welcome to the weekly link up for hand stitching enthusiasts! It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and I am thankful for so many things, including this international community of enthusiastic and talented hand stitchers! I wish we could have had the second annual slow stitching retreat this year, but COVID 19 has made that impossible. I am pondering whether I have the technical skills to host an online hand stitching event. Would you be interested in such a thing?
As I have mentioned many times over the past few months, the revamped blogging platform has presented many challenges and frustrations to us "golden oldie bloggers", but I am persevering and finding humour in the random issues... like the way the font doesn't stay consistent throughout one blog post for some unknown reason! So weird!I have done a lot of hand stitching this week. I finished a placemat to donate to "Meals on Wheels" and enjoyed hand stitching the binding.
I started a new knitted facecloth this week. I'm trying a new kind of yarn and a new circular Nova needle but I don't like it because it's too short for my hands. If anyone wants this needle let me know and I'll mail it to you. I know I won't use it and it would be perfect for someone with smaller hands.
Do you see the difference between the needle (on the top) that I was using and this new one on the bottom? It was just not comfortable, so I pulled the stitches off and started over on the larger needle.
Also this week I took a fantastic class by Sujata Shuh on making Siddi quilts. It was a wonderful class and I highly recommend it if you enjoy hand stitching. I will write more about it next Sunday, but let me just say for today that it really filled my bucket! And those needle pullers were a life saver for my hands.
What are you hand stitching on this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend" Are you enjoying the beautiful fall colours where you live? Are you trying to soak up the energy of the last few days of outdoor stitching? Link up your blog post below and share your October project with us.
i have very much enjoyed these lovely temperate autumn days but the temp is going to drop later this week. Have a lovely week, hope you get more hand stitching time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Thanksgiving weekend... I look forward to hearing more insightfulness from your classes next week.. I use hemostats as a needle puller :) Thanks for the linky !! Kathi
ReplyDeleteI have one of those circular needles and I use it for knitting sock but I much prefer a larger needle it's easier on the hands. Thank you for hosting and have a great Sunday. x
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Thanksgiving time and love that you are enjoying nice weather there....your blog is quite full and glad you have worked out all the new issues with the program....I don't knit but looks like it would be enjoyable....enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! Hope you've had lots of time to play with all your hand stitching projects this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you feel about the short kniting needle, great you have other option. I am curious about Siddi quilts.
ReplyDeleteThose trees in fall colors have just caught my eyes! ♥ Nature is so precious.
Happy Thanksgiving day! Happy Sunday!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Kathy!! We have had a couple warmer days this weekend, but it's cooled down considerably here...so dry though that we don't have any brilliant tree colors...mostly pale yellows and faded greens,
ReplyDeleteI am still resting --so no sewing to report on yet...
I am having the same font problems and also indentational ones...I don't like the New Blogger--not user-friendly at all...;000
Hugs, Julierose
A zoom hand sew along would be a fun way to meet all of our blogging friends. We are doing our thanksgiving family gathering on zoom this afternoon, I am curious about your new project. Glad to hear it helped with your current stressed state of mind. Happy stitching.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! I'm looking forward to reading about your sewing adventures next week.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you, your Siddi quilt is off to a good start. Sorry to hear your new circular needles aren't working for you, I have yet to try using them as I barely manage straight needles or knitting for that matter.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! It will be fun to see the result of your class with Sujata. Thanks for hosting this fun link-up every Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI'll be hand stitching down binding today, but I'll be in the car, so no photos or blog post.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeletewonderful projects this week. Our fall colors aren't too pretty so far...mostly mottled greens and yellows, haven't seen any orange yet. I would be interesting in your online stitching event. Not sure how to use zoom, but I'm sure I can learn....unlike blogger, it should be easier to use...I don't like the spacing thing on blogger. It puts toooo much space between what I want. And I can't figure out how to rearrange my pictures except to put them straight. Oh well, I'll figure it out sooner or later. Have a great day!
that class sounds awesome to me. Your fall tree is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Kathy! You have great projects going. I completely understand the short needle problem. I wanted an interchangeable set with 2 and 3 inch needles because I thought they would be easier for hats and such. They are HARD to use! I do still use them, but it takes a bit to adjust to the shorties with I pick them up. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteHappy thanksgiving! I have tried knitting socks on a circular needle and the wire was too long so just gave up. I manage fine using four needles. Lovely autumn colour too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! How nicely the tree is dressed in the autumn's splendor of color . Nature is beautiful now. We also have autumn in Norway now.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! The tree is beautifully festive! Your class sounds like it was wonderful! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving from BC. I am working on small Halloween projects, ones that can be finished quickly. I just finished a witch boot that will form part of a quilt label and am about to start either a broom taxi, or monster cross stitch. I will gather my floss for both and decide when I go into my stitching trunk and look at fabric. :)
ReplyDeleteYour hand stitching always inspires me, Kathy. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteYour Siddi stitching looks wonderful. Do you know, I have used pliers in the past to pull a needle through! Those needle pullers look fabulous. Enjoy your Thanksgiving....love your autumnal trees dressed in their glorious hues.
ReplyDeleteOh...I love your Kawandi and can't wait to hear more about your class. I have never heard of the needle pullers....and I will be ordering a package. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. I just watched Sujata on the Quilt Show with Alex Anderson. Interesting technique. Our colors aren't particularly vibrant this year, perhaps because it was so dry. No frost yet, but I know it will be here soon enough.
ReplyDeletePat
I have used a broken balloon to pull a needle through.
ReplyDeleteTO do a zoom meeting, you have to have access to a zoom account. The free version only allows 40 minutes at a time. Then you schedule a meeting on zoom. The directions are simple enough. Then you invite readers to join you. They must have the meeting link in order to join in. They register with you and you email them the link. They can join in at any time during the set time of the meeting. With me so far? I would love to participate and could help host it, but I do not have a zoom account. I take part in these meetings every week and hosted our church small group back in the spring.
Our Sugar Maples are just starting to turn.
Oh girlfriend...if no one else wants that needle I would be interested! I started knitting shawls and they require circular needles. It is in the size range too!! Love those needle pullers. I have some and use them for hand quilting. I also found some skin coloured ones at Fabricland but they were quite expensive but got some anyway! Visited daughter this weekend and enjoyed a day in the sunshine and a walk along part of Lake Huron. Would love a virtual event, although I am not too computer savvy!
