The August UFO project is on the design wall today. Two rows of flying geese were made to extend the length of the quilt. Should there be a white sashing between the centre blocks and the geese? You can see at the top there is the white strip between and at the bottom there is no strip. Which do you think looks better - the top or the bottom?
Here is a close up of the flying geese at the top and the border print that I want to use.
I love this Sweetwater text print. There isn't much of it left and it will need to be pieced together, but I think it will be a good top and bottom border.
I love this quilt. It sings to me. Hugs
ReplyDeleteAdd the white border between the flying geese and the quilt...
ReplyDeleteLove the way you set it together...
I'm split on my own opinion on this. Part of me says no white strip since so many of the individual blocks have no sashing. Another part says add the white strip because of the sashing between groups of blocks. Dare I suggest add the white strip on one end and not the other?
ReplyDeleteI like the strip. And I like the blocks and colorway!
ReplyDeleteI would put the white strip between the fling geese and the other blocks. This is looking great, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and yellow color combo - I think you've inspired me to try it! My first thought was to add the strip between the blocks and flying geese, but after looking at the bottom row for awhile (no strip), I liked that too. Sorry, I'm no help!
ReplyDeleteCould the geese fly in opposite directions? Searsportquilter
ReplyDeleteOh awesome! Love the geese!
ReplyDeleteI'd add the white sashing, I always thinks a narrow sashing kind of frames the quilt. It also make it so much easier when there is a lot of seams! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOh, I was just about to comment that you should add the sashing on one end and not the other.....and read that's what Justgail said as well :) It would continue the kind of improve construction.
ReplyDeleteI think either way works but with the white it ties everything together
ReplyDeleteYou did go with the flying geese :) I think your border idea looks great with the sashing.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with JustGail, I am torn...my first reaction was the bottom with no white sashing...but then yes it needs to have it..but does it really need it...I think not!! bahaha not much help! Love that text print for the outside border as well.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is looking great! I love the flying geese borders, and I would vote in favor of adding the white strips.
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom border better. I love the quilt, think it is just the right size for all the action it contains.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. I sort of prefer the border with no white strip. Whatever you do, it's going to be so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have no advice on the geese borders. I like both versions!

This is a beautiful quilt. I prefer the white border between the quilt and the geese. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom with the geese and no border, but I like the suggestion of having the geese on the top go in one direction and the bottom ones in the other. Aren't you glad you asked given the answers you received?

Love your quilt. I've seen a lot of that colour scheme lately, especially since I made a quilt in those colours for my daughter. I have finally sandwiched my Blockheads 2 quilt, not sure when I will quilt it.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt has turned out so nicely, I especially like the blue and yellow color way. I would choose the bottom, flying geese w/o white strip. Either way though, you've got a lovely quilt there.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the bottom if as is. Are you going to sew white sashing onto the sides? Maybe then I would like the top better but I would have to see it before deciding.
ReplyDeleteI’d add the white strips. Your quilt is beautiful and I love the fabrics. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteHere is a different take - how about a blue border that would frame the quilt? Just a thought!
ReplyDeleteWhite sashing top and bottom and sides too is my suggestion. Whatever your quilt is just beautiful. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI'd do it with no white strip. But they both work well.
ReplyDeleteI like it without the strip the best, but both look fine. So you can loose either way you go.
ReplyDeleteI like it with the white strip.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely! So inspirational!!!
