Slow Sunday Stitching

It's Sunday again, and that means it's time to relax with some hand stitching. Please join in by getting your hand stitching and putting in a few more stitches while we visit.

2 bright spots in a dreary week
I'm still on a soup making kick... can't seem to stop it yet.
Here is the latest batch of 3 veggie soup with the cutest little daffodils that popped up this week. Since the pandemic started other soups I have made include broccoli, carrot, roasted garlic cauliflower, squash, asparagus, chicken noodle, and Thai carrot (made with peanut butter). Next up is potato soup since I've cleared out the fridge and freezer of all the vegetables.

I'm making good progress on my hand embroidered tea towel. This is from a pattern collection called "Stitcher's Revolution" of iron on designs. This week I finished the rolling pin, all the letters, and the little heart. Today I look forward to unusual stitching that border design.

This really is a "no stress" hand stitching project. I just pick a colour of floss from my carefully organized storage system and start stitching.

I have been enjoying many online concerts during my COVID stitching. Did you catch the One World Together at Home concern last night? It was very inspiring.

I enjoyed all the artists and the stories presented, and the global effort to put on a show like this. Here is a photo I took of Andrea Bocelli, the amazing pianist Lang Lang, and Celine Dion... they sang "The Prayer" and wow that was beautiful! Lady Gaga and John Legend joined in also... check it out here.

It brought me to tears thinking of all the health care workers who are sacrificing their lives to take care of COVID patients. Included in those brave superheroes is my baby sister, fighting on the front lines of COVID in one of the hardest hit areas in the USA. Here she is getting ready to gown up to get to work, hoping to save lives and also to stay alive herself. This is one of the reasons why I have been staying home for more than a month now while the world tries to get this virus under control.
Save lives (maybe my sister's!) = STAY HOME!

What are you hand stitching today while we wait out COVID19?

  1. Thank you so much for your post. I need the courage right now that is heading your blog as my elderly mother was hospitalized last night (not for the virus). I will be stitching today to keep my troubled mind busy. I love your tea towel by the way.

  2. Yes, if we all stayed home, we will save lives. Good on your sister and all the other healthcare workers who put their lives at risk every day they go to work to help others. I must say my embroidery threads are as neatly sorted as yours. =) Your teatowel is looking fabulous.

  3. Love your tea towels embroidery! We are fortunate to be able to sit at home with sewing and embroidery now that the whole world has stopped and we are asked to stay home. We hope the pandemic will subside soon. Also hope your sister and all health care professionals can be well protected and not infected. Take care!

  4. I love your carefully organized floss system, LOL!! I'm staying home too, only venturing out to go to the store and PO once a week. I pray that our health care workers have enough PPE to keep them from getting sick, and that we have a treatment and a vaccine soon.

  6. I didn't catch the concert maybe I will be able to catch bits of it here and there later. Good luck to your sis - hope she stays safe.

  7. I use the same system for organizing my floss! I have a collection of several different Stitcher's Revolution transfers. I'll work on kitchen towels as a summer project.

I have no problem staying home since I was doing that most of the time before COVID. Three cheers and good thoughts for our health care workers who can't stay home.

  8. I have a carefully organized storage system for my embroidery floss that looks much like yours! A thousand thank yous to your sister, and my niece who is also a nurse working with Covid patients, and all of our healthcare workers! Enjoy your stitching today, Kathy.

  9. My carefully organized thread system looks much like yours. I do have some in a plastic organized container, but more often than not I pull out the baggie that looks like yours. I loved what part I saw of that concert too, especially the Bocelli/Dion/Legend one. I also loved the Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder portions. Good Luck to your sister. I am staying home. My husband hasn't been out of the house since a Dr. Appt the end of January. I did end up getting that those embroidery transfers, now just to stitch some!

  10. We've been staying home other than the weekly grocery store run and a couple of lunch drive through runs to help support our local business in this rough time. But I'm amazed at the number of people who aren't staying home, they finally put limits on who could go into Walmart and Lowes, which according to what I've heard from others have been packed. Hoping it turns a corner soon.

  11. Can't wait to see how you stitch the unusual border around the rolling pin. Cute project. Great minds think alike. I have the SAME carefully organized storage system as you!

I will be making some masks today for the people in my family (and a few friends and neighbors) that are medical and essential workers. We have been staying home for them--and the brave heroes like your sister.

  14. Well, I guess it’s a proven fact that there is only one sure fire way to store floss! Works for everyone! I’ll pray for your sister, you pray for mine. She’s not in healthcare but she is in an essential job and must go to work everyday. Working with the public and many don’t wear masks or practice distancing. Thank God we have a stay at home hobby! We always have something to work on and are never bored. Awesome!

  15. So glad I am using a floss system similar to such a talented lady! Big TY to your sister for all she is doing. We (my kids and I) have been home for over a month now. Hubby goes out to work at the grocery and to do his pool route - both deemed essential. I have a date with the sewing machine and 2 kids today but plan to work some crochet tonight to relax and unwind. Enjoy your day. That reminds me- I have a bean soup in the fridge that needs eating. It actually turned out really good - a mediterranean bean soup. Second time I have made it.

  16. Your little stitchery is very cute. I agree we really need to thank all those that are in health care and those that are asked to work with the public in grocery stores to keep us fed. I have never canned soup before you have me intriqued.

  17. With the exception of groceries and a walk each day, hubby and I have been staying at home. Your sister is doing a great job that not everyone would be willing to do. Wish her well for me, she is a brave lady even though she probably doesn't think so.
Love that you changed the stitching on the letters L to be on top of the rolling pin!!! good job, I agreed with your assessment.

  18. I love your floss organizing system! Many thanks and good thoughts going out to your sister and everyone exposing themselves. My daughter isn't on the front lines - she's at the end of the line working in the Medical Examiner's office here. We are not hard hit, but they have 3 or 4 people every week they have to test, so she presumes her exposure is continuous and keeps her distance. She is also exposed to the ambulance drivers and EMTs who bring in the bodies from scenes and the hospitals. They just don't know what happens with the virus when a person dies, so they are taking every precaution and presume exposure. It's tough on us all, but it is important to try to contain this thing. I hope you can find some times of calmness in all of this and have a great week.

  20. My DIL is a nurse, so I share your fears. Also, my floss organization is identical to yours! I made asparagus soup yesterday. Easy & delicious, from Laurel’s Kitchen cookbook.

  21. Thanks for the link. I didn't watch the concert, but I love that song and it always makes me choke up. Didn't recognize Lady Gaga. Thank you and prayers for her safety to your sister and all the other healthcare workers.

  23. Hi Kathy,
Love rolling pin piece, really cute.
    Have a great day!

  24. As always, I admire your quilting throughout the week and stitching on Sunday.
I totally support the stay at home stances of government, despite the new political rhetoric for the opposition. My mother is in the nursing home in Bobcaygeon that has lost 30 people.
Their staff has taken a serious hit.

  25. I'm so happy to see that someone else uses the same highly detailed organization system for their floss. Love the tea towel!!!
