I have finished 6 blocks and although I was uncertain about my colour changes (I substituted gold for green, and pink for aqua) I am very pleased how it is coming together on the design wall.
Today I am auditioning the cornerstone colour.
Do we prefer the light blue cornerstones?
Or do we prefer the darker blue cornerstones?
If you have a preference, let me know in the comment section below. I hope to get some rows sewn together this week.

Tough decision. I would not have known there was a difference if you had not asked. Both look good. Lots of help I am. Btw, it looks fantastic!

ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great! Are you going to do a straight set like your photo shows? I prefer the darker blue for the cornerstones.
ReplyDeleteI think it benefits from the contrast the dark blue provides. But then I like high contrast in Quilts.

ReplyDeleteJust another opinion---I prefer the dark cornerstones for the extra contrast it provides. Good looking quilt! Mine stopped at #4, but I'm working on it again this week.

ReplyDeleteFirst, I like your new header. It makes me want to pull out my FW and start stitching quilt blocks. Light or dark corner stones is a tough call. I notice with the light blue corner stones the center stars seem to pop a bit more. The darker corner stones make the corner blocks visually stronger. Therefore, it comes down to what effect you desire. Standing farther back may help you decide and/or studying photos. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteMy eye is drawn to the stars - they are very prominent. The color of the cornerstones can be either light blue or dark. That will not affect the overall look of the quilt. Kudos on making good progress :-)

ReplyDelete200 more hours of sewing sounds about right...haha!!3 days so far for me and just putting on the borders today. I think I like the light blue cornerstones...a little softer look for the quilt and with the four patches..it comes together like a nine patch!

ReplyDeleteIMHO the light blue lets the star shine bright. The darker color gives a pathway for the eye to cross over to the next diagonal star. Either way, once sewn, the corner block will be so small that I don't think it will have much to say, especially if you're making a full quilt. Love the substitution of colors. You called it great. Enjoy the 200 hours left to go. ;^)
ReplyDeletePretty colors.... I prefer the light... I think it makes the stars shine a bit more. The dark tend to draw my eyes to them rather than the stars... but either would work. Which do you prefer?
ReplyDeleteOnly 200 more hours is exactly why I am just this week sewing borders on a Bonnie Hunter mystery from YEARS ago that called for a bunch more blocks, but I quit at 12! I have never had to unpick so much on any other blocks. I could not get them right and decided when I came to a spot where it would look balanced and provide warmth on a sofa while watching TV, I was done! Never mind all of the other pieces I had cut and ready to go for more blocks! LOL
ReplyDeleteAs to the cornerstones, I centered them on my monitor and backed away from it to get a more distant view. I like the lighter ones. I think they provide a nice, soft framework for the stars, whereas the dark ones seem to pull the eye away from them. I guess it depends on where you want the focus, but I vote for the stars and lighter cornerstones. :)
My vote is for the light blue - it helps create its own secondary block at the corners...
ReplyDeleteI am no help at all because I can see that either one is a great choice. Perhaps if you know where or to whom this quilt is going, you can then decide on the cornerstones. Your color changes are making a very good looking quilt!

I prefer the lighter blue, I like the secondary 9 patch those make. I love the way this quilt 'fools the eye' into thinking it's a two block quilt.
ReplyDeleteOnly another one or two hundred more hours! Hahaha Oh that is how I feel too! And yes - I've never had to use my ripper so much. But on the plus side - the frolic quilt is pretty. And yours is wonderful! I love that you were brave enough to change up the colors. I personally like the light blue better - it is a softer look. But either way is beautiful.
