October UFO

Do I dare suffer the humiliation of choosing the same UFO for the 3rd month in a row?!?
Yes, I'm swallowing my pride and I'm doing it!
Scrap Dance Tango
October's UFO goal will be the same as August's and September's - the Scrap Dance Tango which is a mystery quilt pattern by  Carole. Progress has been made since it became the UFO of the month. The problem has been that my monthly goal has been too lofty.  All my spare (non working) time has been spent judging and entering fall fairs, which did not leave much brain power or time to work on my UFO.
Enough of the excuses!

To date, the border was cut and attached, the backing, batting and quilt top was prepared, and the pin basting completed.

These are the chosen threads for the quilting ... a dark taupe for the bobbin and a creamy neutral thread for the top. You can see the backing on the lower right side of the photo (under the thread).  The quilting has been started with a stitch-in-the-ditch grid on both sides of the sashing, and I don't know what is happening after that!

The goal this month is to finish the machine quilting, put the binding on and actually finish this beautiful quilt once and for all! Linking up once again with One Monthly Goal.

  7. It’s a beauty and I commend you for your continued progress. I had to chuckle when you said your quilting plan had gotten as far as SID to start. I recently had that happen tho by the time I get to the quilting, I usually have a plan in place. So, I fell back on what I used to do when I began machine quilting. I rummaged around and found where I had stashed a stack of transparency film. Maybe its called paper. It is what is used for overhead projectors. Actually tracing paper can be used in a piece. Then I used a dry erase marker to try out a few ideas. I am so glad I did as I ended up going with a totally different plan/look. BTW, it is wonderful to see quilters still making more involved quilts. LOL, don’t get me wrong as i too make my share of the more ‘modern’ layouts. What i mean is that its warming to see that us quilters still have a connection to the quilt generation who didn’t have rotary cutters and even back to when quilts were most often hand pieced. And I may add hand quilted. That is the reason why I love going to the local fall fairs as the Home ‘Arts building usually had such a wide variety of quilts/ methods/ generations. I love standing and looking at them all for I seem to learn something from each and every one of them.

  10. The end is in sight! It's a lovely design and your scrappy colors are both visually interesting and soothing. I agree with QuiltGram's comment about "more involved" designs. There is such an emphasis on quick-to-piece these days. (I can spot a 2-1/2" strip pattern from across the room (whether made from precuts or strips from yardage).)

  11. The quilting has begun which is the best way to start! The rest will follow and you'll have it finished by the end of October. Happy Stitching!

  12. The way I see it, you have made progress each month to get you to the point of quilting it. That is a good thing, you just set the goals really high with 'life' happening around you. Concentrate on the progress made rather than the lofty goals. Pretty quilt and I can tell it is so happy you are making progress on it.

  14. I'll give you a pat on the back for perseverance! No humiliation at all, just a strong will to get this finished. And you will, this month, just you wait and see. The quilt is looking great.

  16. No shame needed...progress is progress...you are moving forward and that is all that matters. It will get done. Progress in my sewing room is non-existent. I am hoping that next week, after gardens are done and laundry caught up...I can reintroduce myself to my sewing room!!!

  18. Sometimes UFOs take more than one month to finish up, especially if there are other life events going on at the same time. Hope the third month is the charm and you have a finished quilt by Halloween.

  19. You'll get it finished this time (at least the quilting part). Sometimes our lives just get overwhelmed.
