Mystery Update

Are you sewing along with Kevin's Simply Sensational Summer Scrap mystery project??
This quilt involves a lot of cutting and sewing scraps. Did I mention A LOT?
I'm not going to say exactly how much work it was, but we are talking about hundreds of pieces to make this quilt!

I shouldn't complain because I am very happy about all the old batik scraps I am clearing out of the stash. I had many 2.5" pre-cut strips, so I cut all my squares 2.5" but you can use any measurement you prefer for this amazing mystery.
Mystery neutral blocks
Cutting the squares left several smaller pieces from the ends of strips, so I sewed those into blocks as well. I liked the neutral blocks so much I put them on the design wall to admire. They really could become their own quilt. I'm not loving that green fabric in the top left of the photo, but in real life I don't think it's really that dark. When I look at it again, it better appear to be lighter or it's not going to make the final cut to be included in the quilt :)

I'm very proud to be caught up and finished step #2.
You put me through my paces Kevin!
Here are all the pieces in a storage container ready for the next step to be posted at the end of the month. I can't wait!

  1. I first thought about 1" squares, and cut some. Then I understood that cutting that many small squares would drive me crazy. So I ended up with 2,5" as you. Now I've cut more than half of the squares, and have started to sew the four-patches. I'll try to cut it all before we get the next clue. Your bonus quilt looks great. I sew my smaller scraps into an ongoing project. Have a nice weekend, my friend.

  2. Wow! Congrats on having all that piecing done. Your "left overs" blocks look pretty cool too. It has to feel good to whittle down the content of a couple of your scrap bins.

  4. I'm no participating in this mystery, too much going on right now, but I am downloading the clues. However, Nanette who was working on the mystery, got bored so gifted all her squares and 4 patches to me. I've got a start for for the mystery!

  5. Well, Kathy as you can see that Gretchen is the proud owner of Kevin's project. You did a great job and I know how much work went into all of that! Gretchen will make a beautiful quilt out of it! ME? I am going on vacation! Time to really play! Hugs

  6. Well, I haven't even started Step 2 (eeeekkkk). I have my fabrics pulled, though. So that's something, right? I agree that it's a lot of cutting and sewing. So curious to see what it's going to look like, which won't be much if I don't get my wiggle on!
